Live from the saddle 2020

Had 3 deer come in this morning, including 2 nice bucks, one of which I've been after for 2 years. They came in from behind me, but the dang little rag horn that was busted me as I was trying to draw. Pretty sure my morning is toast...pretty bummed out now.

So you have that carabiner attached to your prussik knot on the tether as a backup correct?

Yeah, I don't understand that back up, what are you expecting to fail? If the ropeman cuts through (highly unlikely) then the friction is useless. If the bridge fails then the friction is useless. The only thing you are backing up is the biner attached to the ropeman, and not sure how that will fail.

It's not a backup of any major substance. Everything you said is 100% accurate. I use it partially as a backup in case the ropeman were to stick open and slip: then there's a backup before the stopper knot.

The main reason its there though, is that I use the tether as a backup linesman rope when I'm climbing. As I'm climbing over limbs and branches, it allows me to stay attached to the tree when I have to go around/over the branch.

Chilly day. Hope they decide to get out to eat early.

Nothing live, but hunted last night and crept in late with a pre planned bolt setup. Had six cross kinda early around 4:15 at about 45. Turkeys went by at 15.....of course.

I had a camera 20 yds from my set, but didn’t want to try to check it yesterday cause things were crunchy. Our big 5 was there at 4 this morning. 10 days, probably 125 good pics. Hanging with the group, pics three times of him. Wind was off a tad and I was late tonight so I opted out. I ran in to grab the camera and my last bolt that I seem to leave EVERYTIME I go.....lol

Had some snow yesterday. Was a bit of a chore getting back in here as the snow had collapsed all the trees into the road. Took a while to push thru it. It sure is pretty though. My daughter and I are the only vehicle in this morning so we feel like we have the woods to ourselves.20201213_090435.jpg

Weird to be hanging from a saddle in late December. Deer season is over but it's still small game season so I grabbed the 870 and setup near some known nutter hideouts. No victims yet. A few sighted at a distance.

Really just an excuse to get outside, and to play with saddle toys. In the spirit of squirrel hunting run and gun I grabbed the Treehopper Recon & Treesuit. Such a nice combo. Partnered them with my 2nd marriage WEs and the trusty old Knaider. Sub 10 lb total package including the pack it all carries in.
EDIT:
Put it on a scale when I got home. 13 lbs with Arcteryx kneepads, Treesuit , and 6 WEs in a bag, plus my kill kit and flashlight/headlight. Treesuit with OCB and Stealth Strips is heavier than I thought at 2 lbs. Feels like nothing though. Didn't include the Recon as I was wearing it.

Very comfortable in the Recon. Both walking in and hanging. The Treesuit is not much heavier than an ROS, and so much more real estate. It pairs perfectly with the Recon.

I may have to take back all the times that I claimed that I was a single panel guy.

This guy kept an eye on me during my late season doe hunt yesterday. He survived. One of the 10 does that came in under me did not.
