Lone Wolf Custom Gear Kuhnert Ambush Bent bolt/Fix

Yep. Gotta say, I'll take a bent bolt immediately acknowledged over a broken platform that's still "totally fine." Makes me feel better about my positioning aid.
yeah, I hate to say it, but a call from andre at 9pm last night, then a follow up email this morning makes me think real hard about keeping it. I'm going to check mine over when it arrives and make sure the area the bolt and versa button will be in contact with are flat/square so everything makes good contact, and the hole itself is centered. If its all good, they probably killed my dissapointment
with kindness...

NIce follow up LWCG. Hope it all works out.

“slight hole discrepancy” what does that mean?

I bet they are sending XOP buttons out.
I have a guess that because of the rough waterjetting on some posts, they werent sittling flush or even when drilled which led to oblong and not square(or perfectly round, how ever you want to say it:) ) holes. IMO this would mean the versa button needs support form a "shoulder" on the exterior for strength.

I mean I sorta understand shipping out iffy casts if the failure mode is legitimately non-hazardous slightly more than iffy bolts (because I can wait for a 3 day fix...but waiting for a revised casting is a bit tougher) as long as the failure is safe and the the recall happens. But that's a fine line to walk both legally and ethically.

I am glad they are proactively addressing it.

I need to shim my post. The spacers leave some slop and mine pops.

Outstanding movement on their part! Acknowledging a problem is usually more than half the battle! Definition of Extreme Ownership!

Yea I got the email and my platform should ship any minute now. I hope it gets here before 4 as I have to go to work. The fact that they shipped out the fix today. Means it want arrive until after I have left for Kentucky. I went to HD and picked up the exact bolt they was using to take on my trip. So I can keep on trucking.

Just got the email too. Glad to see they are addressing proactively. Mine looks fine, does seem to stick out too far. I like that Beast Button though..Ambush.jpg

If you put a bolt in a vise, you can still bend it. Drilling completely thru the post doesn't fix the issue of where & why the bolt is bending.

I would think that it would have less chance of bending if the bolt was longer/extending thru complete post and supported along 80% of its body so only 20% was sticking out for button use

Right now it looks like 20% supported and 80% available to bend

I think this would have been better. Keep the gray area solid and then have the mounting hardware in the red square.

Agree

Any longer distance thru the post would help

The more metal to support the load, the better

A button would help.

The bolt for a versa button on a lone wolf treestand only goes through one side of the post tubing. Probably much weaker than this. I put all my weight on that thing to cam over 100s of times never had one bend.

Yeah a button providing a shoulder would help

Don't get me wrong, I prefer my stuff right the first time. That's why I spent so many pesos on squirrel steps. ;)

It's just nice to know that my gen 1 ambush isn't obsolete before I even got it. Replacement part is in the mail, and I literally did nothing on my end to make that happen.

Agreed... I feel the same. I get mine tomorrow, I haven't contacted them and they are already sending me a replacement part. Taking ownership of the issue and then acting on that speaks volumes. Although I did email them to see if I could get their dual chamber deal since I heard the podcast AFTER I had submitted my purchase and still no response to date :tearsofjoy:

Yeah I'd say this was handled well. Guys who were in a hurry get in an extra hunt or 2. Everyone gets the gen 2 within a week. I mean I'm still amazed it happened at all, but it's handled fine.
