For those who want to use the Lone Wolf hand climber seat as a climbing method / platform, but don't don't want to use Fayette Kong's Summit cable mod...this may be for you.

I cut a piece of thin steel shipping band material and electrical taped it to the back side of the belt. This gives the belt rigidity, but still allows the belt to pass through the arms and cam down tight with stock hardware.

Just make sure you bend the belt and banding material into the approximate desired shape prior to taping so that it retains that shape for use on the tree.

This should prevent the belt from catching on tree bark and twisting at the platform arms. (that always made me nervous)

I got the band part (nice) but you tape over all the teeth too?

I did, just so that it would hopefully be more robust and hold the band tighter. You could probably space your wrap out a little more so that the tape falls into the teeth gaps.

I can't comment on the life span or longevity of this mod since I just did it.

Im interested. I used the XopHC last night and hate how it catches like crazy. Also, it would be nice to not have to readjust the band tighter mid climb. Does this help in that aspect?

Ok i figured but asked anyway...All we need is a wider "stock" belt lol...Is the original platform belt the same size as the hand climber belt or bigger?

I climbed 25' the other day up a tree the size of a basket ball and never had to adjust. Sometimes you get lucky lol

May I ask what is the issue with the belt without any mods? loose on the tree?

The flatter the platform is the easier it is all the way up. I'm starting to just climb all the way to the top without "hanging up the band" and just adjusting at hunting height. Atleast by doing this the platform is always perfect at the top.

The belt is flimsy, catches on the backside of the tree, and twists. I have not experienced this type of failure myself, but I have read that if enough force/torque is applied to the belt where it exits the arms, it can break. (See attached photo)

The metal banding mod allows you to use all stock hardware, but should eliminate the catching/twisting issue.

Heat shrink tubing might work even better if you could heat it enough to shrink it down tight without damaging the integrity of the belt itself...

Ya the twisting at the tubes always scares me. I have been up and look down and saw the band turn a white color at the twist. I have tried going up without adjusting and its too scary. The platform will start to point downward and we all know that is not good at all.

I guess i answered my own question. The two bands are the same size, platform and hand climber. You would think guys that use the combo would be having the same issue. Double trouble even..

I do have an XL belt ,i need to install it. We all know this is not an issue (usually) if the tree is smaller.

That belt break is scary, never would of guessed that could happen. It's got steel wire in it.

The belt has a tendency to hang up on bark while climbing. This can be mitigated by using a 12-18" piece of clear tubing over the belt that gives a smooth surface to the area that contacts the tree. I used this during gun season and experienced few, if any, hang ups.

The adjustment problem is another issue that I have no solution for, but don't find to be as discouraging as some.
