It works, but after using it a handful of times, the tape is starting to wear and catch inside the tube arms. I think it would be a legitimate long term solution if there was a better way to adhere the banding to the belt...maybe some appropriate diameter heat shrink???

You could try it, but I don't think the cams would lock down properly

I used 10-2 electrical wire, black tape and short piece of rod sock to help protect the tape. Haven't tested it much as my season is over.

So after trying the summit cable mod myself, I actually came to the same conclusion you did because even the with cable, I was still experiencing hang ups while climbing.

I was considering drilling a new hole for the arm bolts closer to the nubs, but was afraid two large holes that close to one another might cause it to break. It looks like your idea should prevent this. I may give it a shot...
