Whenever my suppressor arrives I’ll be taking my Daniel Defense 300 Blackout DDM4 PDW in to the woods. Shooting 190gr subs. It’s a 7” barrel. The suppressor will make 7 or 9” longer depending on how I configure it.

As quiet as it comes, stable weapon, PLENTY of stopping power.

If I were to take a handgun style pistol, I think I would lean towards a 500 s&w revolver. Something like this, with a decent optic:

I’ve considered the same with a .277 Wolverine, but I’m concerned with bullet performance at subsonic speeds. What projectile are you planning to use out of curiosity?

I am also planning to use a 10mm G20 this year to take my first whitetail with a handgun.

The Glock 20 is fun to shoot. I’m deciding now between a new .357 or a G40 in 10mm. I would like to test some newer bullets. What I used before didn’t reliably give an exit. One thing about the 10mm is there isn’t a capable big game pistol that’s more fun to practice with. I quickly tire of shooting paper groups but with an auto you can shoot a group then shoot steel back and forth. Low stress and low recoil. Expensive ammo when you start 15 rd mag dumps though. Speaking of mag capacity the glock is much lighter to carry when you don’t have a 15 round mag fully loaded. I usually carried 5-7 rounds.

Had a Blackhawk in 45 colt. IMO Ruger has gone down hill. Sold it pretty quick. I always have a 9mm Glock on me. Wouldn’t hesitate to use it on a deer.

Plenty of stopping power with subsonics. What is your energy looking like? At the muzzle? 50 yards? 100 yards?

Don’t know. Haven’t looked that much in to it. I’ve only got a few hundred store bought rounds. I’m new to reloading this year, and am tinkering with the dies for 300aac. Once I get the press dialed in I’ll build some rounds for this caliber, and do some ladder testing. All that will happen once the suppressor arrives.

The glock 10mm is used for Grizzly bear protection for in Alaska. It also used deer-hunting and boar hunting. Revolver vs semi automatic. Well going semi automatic all day. The military or law enforcement revolver for good reasons. If like revolvers for whatever reason that's cool tool too

Is 45 long colt a nogo from a pistol? That is the closest thing to a normal hunting pistol I own. I would love to afford a 44 or something. Maybe I should stick to rifle or bow.

Sapulpa, Ok
I'm a bit partial to my Kimber 1911's so my custom target II in 10mm is my go to pistol wether I'm chasing deer or feeding cattle.

Killed a few does with it and the doubletap 200gr controlled expansion, waiting on a big hog to give me a chance to test the 200gr hard cast solids.

@CarolinaDog it depends on your handgun. When I hunted with a Glock 20 I used a thigh holster or just a Blackhawk serpa2 holster hooked onto my backpack.
for large handguns I had a shoulder holster that I rerouted the straps on to use it like a bandolier holster. From scoped single shots to large revolvers it was the most versatile and user friendly setup.

Thanks. I have Sig P220 Hunter that I'm carrying a little this season. I really haven't settled on a hunting holster because I'm mostly likely going to put a red dot on it in the off season and didn't want to have to buy another holster.

Thing of beauty, right there. I imagine 300gr reduces the need for tracking a bit.

A .45 colt in a modern firearm will do anything a .44 mag will do.
