I saw that this morning. Awesome deer. I managed to get on the board this morning with a public land doe
Awesome sauce!! I'm at the tail end of COVID. Looking forward to getting out there next week during this upcoming cool front!! :sunglasses: I've been stuck at home, just buying a bunch of hunting crap I didn't need!

Figured I'd ask quickly here but: pirogues. I'm looking at one rated for 314lbs, 14' in length, seller says it would def carry more weight than that. are official ratings meaningful, or do they simply denote maximum maneuverability up to a certain weight? this is a little placard on the side of the pirogue that says that

Did you check to see how much weight it will expel? ;)

I can't tell if that's sarcasm or if I am actually missing something important??
They can be a little tippy is all. Does 314 give you any room for hauling a big deer out? If not but close, I personally would still use it if I was going to be in water shallow enough to wade if things go sideways. If I am in water too deep to wade, I want enough capacity to comfortably handle the weight of me, gear and critter with some to spare.

maybe if I strap enough contractor bags to some 3/4" ply, with flex seal... I can basically get the same results.

I’m legit considering making a trip to Bayou Cocodrie NWR or Yancey WMA during the rut. It has an outstanding deer population and deer quality. I’ve talked to several hunters who make trips there. It’s not near as pressured as SE LA.
I think someone was not being honest with you or doesn't have the proper perspective. The deer herd was almost nonexistent a couple years ago on RKY and Cocodrie. The pressure is steady all season especially on RKY. Both of those places are shadows of their former selves. The only people who think the herd is decent are people who don't know the history of area. I would go to Tensas, Buckhorn, Beouf, Lake O, Loggy Bayou, Clear Creek, or Dewey Wills before RKY or Cocodrie.

The deer herd was significantly lowered on RKY and Cocodrie after crossguns were allowed in archery season and crack barrel rifles were allowed in muzzloader season. Then the 10 day "primitive" slaughter on RKY during the flood of 2016 finished it off and it still hasn't recovered. Yes, that kid killed a nice deer. It is dead. No need for everyone to hunt him. Those FB pages are good for nothing but destroying areas.

Forget where I read it but they reduced the number of Gun/PW days in Sherburne this year. Can't remember how much of a reduction but the deer population must be a concern for them if they're cutting down days

back in 2019 they closed sherburne when they had to open the morganza spillway. that whole area flooded real bad and it was thought that alot of deer got killed off during that ordeal. I havent hunted sherburne in years to know how its been...
