Does anyone have a side-by-side pic of the .5 with the standard and tall post? I am absolutely wracking my brain trying to decide what to do here...

I bought a new .5 two years ago and hunted with it during bow season that year. I use it as a hang-on stand, not a hybrid platform.

I ended up selling it prior to my Appalachian Trail thru hike last year knowing I would eventually get another. My only complaint was the seat height.

I am 5'8 145lbs so I am not a tall or big guy, thus the standard seat was ok (despite not having sidekick mounting holes which I do not understand), however, I much prefer a taller post for bow hunting. Just so much movement trying to quietly limb up the tree using my shoulder blades. I had a ooal lil ambush once and I thought it was absolutely the perfect size (longer, narrow platform, and taller post) but being the UL purist that I am, i couldn't get over the weight and the 2-piece design.

Anyway, if anyone has any input on the tall post, as a shorter guy, using it as a stand, that would be great. I read through all the threads I could find but only saw comments from 6ft+ people regarding the tall post.

I was considering the retrograde as it looks to have close to a 2" taller post than the .5 despite the specs being the same. I just cant seem to make myself like the looks of it enough to write off lwcg. TIA

I also meant to ask: Does anyone know if the extended sidekick will mount to the standard .5 seat? I figure the universal model would but I havent found confirmation of this.

I’m 6’1” and have the standard but I do have 2 of the thick seat cushions on there. I have never had the tall post, considered it but don’t like that it makes the seat hang below the platform when in transport mode.

I’ve had the .5 and used both posts. I’m 6’0 for reference.

The taller post is worth every dollar. It will make that stand seem bigger and more roomy if used like a regular hang on. I didn’t like that standard post at all.

Im using the tall post on the .75 now as well.

I have the tall post on my 1.0. I was the pioneer of the tall post on the .5… with that said imo you go with the .5 for its light weight. You put the tall post on there and add a full lb. I prefer the standard post on the .5 especially doing the hybrid thing. You can flip the seat cushion and use it as a kneepad. The 18” post is good height for that. The 22” post is too high and I am 6-4

I have a .5 but with the standard post that I only use for a hybrid saddle combo. I do like the tall post on the .75 and I'm sure I'd like the tall post on .5 but in my mind it changes the packability of a compact stand too much. It wasn't designed for that size post and having a pin lock that extends past the platform doesn't appeal to me.

If you're at a point where you're thinking about buying another .5 I'd consider the .75 with tall post and mesh seat. Everything locks into place and mine has turned into the best lock-on I've ever owned.
It's all about trade offs.. the tall post are an upgrade to those stands. They make the transition from sitting to standing easier. I think it would fit you great at 5'8".

Add a tall post, add footrest, bigger seat… why not just get a .75? Your about the same weight at that point.
I did. Have both. Added footrests to both. Otherwise stock for me. No taller post or mesh seat. Just adding that footrests are nice.

I have come full circle. I loved the .75 last season. Used it most of the season…. Then I realized with the same post and seat configuration the 1.0 is only 3oz heavier… so I now have a 1.0 and .5 sold the .75.

I actually prefer the smaller platform, which is why I've used stands like the ooal lil ambush. I'm strictly ROS when I saddle hunts I have zero desire to do the hybrid thing.

I also won't be using the stand to pack anything other than some sticks and maybe a small pack during late season, all of which I could do without the meat shelf. However I do much prefer the seat up and out of the way during transport so it doesn't hit my legs if squatting/crawling. So while using the pin would be a step backwards compared to the intended shelf lock design, I think it would be worth it to have the taller post.

My exact thoughts were if the post turns out to be a little taller than I'd like, the footrests would solve that problem. I've had footrests on most of my stands over the years but only plan to use them on the .5 if necessary.

I get in a lot of younger trees with many limbs, such as a cedar or 25yr old pine, so the .75 may be a little much for that. I actually found the 16.5 width of my 1st .5 was more than required (yet nice to have) and the length to be just enough.

I think I will try the .5 with the standard seat and tall post, mainly for bow hunting.

That said, I agree with everything stated about the .75 and my idea of a perfect, end all be all, would be the .75 with standard post, mesh seat, and footrests. Now that sounds sexy!

On a side note, when I sold my first .5, I remember wishing Matt would make a mini hush the exact size of the lil ambush, which I would've definitely bought.

Thanks for the input everyone, it has helped.

Well I got the .5 with tall post and regular seat in yesterday. Amazing how fast it got here...

I'm a little baffled why they advertise their posts at the lengths they do. Even measuring from the bottom of the platform, the top of the seat is at 21.5 or so.

So they technically offer a 17" and 21" post, then the 19" (I assume) on the .75.

Anyway, I am so glad I decided to try the .5 again, but with the tall post. Even at 5'8, it makes a world of difference in comfort, especially for a bowhunter sitting back to tree.

Missing the sale code by two weeks and having to drop $600 on the stand and extended sidekick still hurts, hurts real bad mmkay.

I ordered a .5 once while in the woods when I got a notification of them being back in stock. Canceled it when I got home because the sticker shock. I’m not rich, not poor but 500$ plus for a stand is just crazy to me. Decided to give it another go. Actually tried to cancel it again but fought it and kept it. I probably looked insane to the people at LWCG and maybe shouldn’t admit any of this. All in all, so glad I kept it. Beyond impressed with it and I love everything about it.

This is so funny because I did the exact same thing the first go round. I bought a .5 with all the fixins' and 4 doubles with cable aiders, buckleless straps... I think I cried a little in my sleep that night!

Honestly, I loved that setup. The LWCG stands really shine when you use their sticks as a system. I just couldn't get over the low seat height.

I loved the doubles and the weight wasn't really that bad. If it turns out I don't like these carbon ss, I will probably go back to the doubles with cable aiders. Of course, now that I have the tall post, Ive heard they won't stow correctly but I dont expect a real issue from that.. Just strap them and go.

Ok so this is with the shoulder straps, 1 cam buckle, the seat, and the little velcro tabs for the seat.

.5, tall post, standard seat = 7.6lb

What about the 20” standard height seat post that comes on the .75? Still too tall to put your knees on as a hybrid setup? I’m 6’3” for reference

It won’t fold flat on the .5. The button hits a rung on the platform.
