Hey gang! It’s been super crazy trying to get ourselves and lots of other guys ready to go this season. Just like all of you, we have been scrambling to get all of our DIY projects done and other gear together as well. As many of you know we launched some new gear this year. One of these pieces is the good ole gear hanger! We lovingly call ours the HYS Strap.

Since our roots run deep in DIY, and one of the biggest and most creative groups of DIYer’s is right here on SH, we thought it only appropriate to share a little DIY Series video with you guys on how to build your own!.

Not much is needed to get the job done, about 212” of ¾” or 1” webbing, a G Hook or T Hook of the appropriate size, and a thread puncher. You don’t have to be a sewing pro to make one and it doesn’t have to be pretty, just functional. This simple, yet extremely awesome piece of kit, is 100% public land legal and can shove into any pouch or pocket.

To get you started in the right direction, here’s one of the OG’s of DIY, Ernie Power!!!!

Thank you guys for all you do and keep the DIY juices flowing!!!

I think that is super! The man knows his target audience. For someone who has all the materials and equipment already, he just showed you how to make one that looks like his which will help spread his brand. If you wanted to make one anyway, without any instructions, you might come pretty close, but that 2" and 3" would have taken a bit of trial and error. I am in the third category... Spend about $25 in materials because I thought I could make it for $5, and that doesn't count the 3-5 hours of me building the thing while the wife gives me evil glares. Thank you Tethered!

I think its great that your company is showing people how to do things like this, I know there has been many times I've modified different thing to my liking......but to see a company showing you step by step how to build things screams "THE AMERICAN WAY!!!" to me!

Does anyone know a cheap place to pick up 1" or 3/4" G hooks? Been looking all morning and struggling trying to find something worth the buck. Amazon has a few but coming from china with mid October ship dates. I know tethrd has some; but I only need one and by the time I purchase a 4 pack with shipping its darn near runs the cost of an HYS strap. Found webbing at a great price, this is the only missing piece of the puzzle!

I looked online for days and came to the conclusion that I would be better served to just order the 4 pack from tethrd. If you diy much at y’all, you will use them up.

Yep, and the ones from tethrd operate easier due to the thumb release portion ergonomics.

I have these and they do work, but the Tethrd T hooks are much better in every way.

I have some black “G” hooks and could mail you a couple if you still need some. Let me know!

IMy daughter has a sewing machine. What needle and thread is required? I looked up 'thread puncher' that the OP mentioned but only see crochet/ knitting stuff.

Any ol' sewing machine will work for this DIY. I picked up a cheap Singer on Craigslist.

For this stuff I use poly thread (upholstery) that you can't break with your hand (it will slice your fingers before it breaks) and a 100/16 (denim) or 110/18 (heavy duty) needle.
