Missed a big buck

Well i went in super deep on a public spot last night. Got in really early and found what i thought to be buck beds tucked up against a ginormous blow down. Backed off 30 yards up the hill and got set up. At 4:00 i was completely set up and settled. At about 5:55 i remember thinking how good it felt with the wind coming off the river and how thankful i was just to be there. At that time i looked left and there was a big 10. Outside the ears, long tines, but not a whole lot of mass. Probably 120 inch deer.... a giant for the public piece i was on. I calmed myself down and took a 35 yard shot that i shouldn’t have taken trying to force an arrow through some brush. I knew if i didn’t take that shot he was gone, and with gun season opening here this weekend there’s no telling what will happen. Well of course it hit a limb and deflected 15 feet to the right and the deer was gone. I’m just thankful that i didn’t hit him in a bad spot and wound him. Maybe the rut will bring him back in close....

It’s disappointing to miss but no guilt from a wounding an animal. You know where he is so play it smart and give him another chance. Good luck and be safe!
This is a posted video on the Facebook La saddle hunters page. If you can see it this is a the shot that will haunt your minds every hunt!
Sorry I can’t get the video link to work. Try to go to the page and watch video.

A 10 point outside his ears long tines sounds like at least over 125 inch P&Y.

I did that twice and had to laugh both times.I think focusing on the deer and pins at same time you miss stuff in between!

Sorry for your about the miss. Every time I miss a big buck I try to learn something from the miss. Then I realize the best part... I get to keep hunting. I only get one statewide bow tag and about 3 months to hunt. I hate to punch it too early. Good luck on the next one.
