Congrats on the buck! Any deer in these thick woods down here is well earned. He actually looks like he has some good mass for down here, makes me think he has some age on him.
I use Malleys Deer Processing in Pass Christian, may be the closest to you. Can look them up on fb and see what all they offer. I know there’s some other smaller operations going on in the saucier area but I’ve never used them so no idea how good they are.Hey all, are there any deer processors anywhere near Gulfport?
I’m tempted to go hunting in the morning but if I kill one, I won’t have time to process it myself. I’m leaving next week for work and will be away for a few weeks.
I probably should stay home and pack… but want to hunt!
This is hard to say for sure. I have never hunted turkeys in the southern part of the state so have no experience in that area. I wish I could tell you come on up here and I'd steer you to a good spot but it has been rough up here so far, even coming from my friends who hunt private. I spent the whole day out yesterday and was only able to call in a hen. The opening day last Friday where I hunt was a madhouse. I've never seen that many trucks in one place outside of a Walmart parking lot. Yesterday to contrast, I didn't see a soul.Hey guys, I want to take my XO and another officer or two turkey hunting this weekend.
None of us are very good turkey hunters. I'm probably the best (having killed exactly one!).
Anyway, here's the question:
Should I hunt down here in Southeastern MS where there are fewer turkeys, but they're probably uneducated and easier to kill...
OR... drive north to the areas known for turkeys (and turkey hunters)?
I'm leaning towards staying local.
Any thoughts or advice is appreciated.
Wish I had some insight that would help but I've never hunted down there.Anyone have any info on Canemount Zone 6? I hunted zone 5 back in 2019 and saw several does but didn't see a single buck! The only reason I’m going back this year is because they no longer charge $100 a day and the wife wanted to go again. The hunt is for Jan 18-21. Any intel would be greatly appreciated.
