A few buddies & myself are considering a public land hunt in Missouri, this coming season. It will be a bow hunt. Would any of you all, who have hunted there, be willing to give the name of a few places that might produce for us. Don't want to go all the way there, & hunt a gar hole. Also, the names of places to wash our butts would be good as well. I plan to do lots of web research, but it never hurts to get hard data from people. Thanks in advance, for any info.

Happy hunting

Canada has nothing either - we got wiped out years ago. Don't bother coming up here for any hunting or fishing.

I hunt a combo of public and private here in Missouri and the hunting can be good in most places. I would say pick a spot you like in the northern 2/3 of the state and do as much research and e-scouting that you can. It would be best if you can make a trip in the next couple months to put some boots on the ground. That way you can see the rut sign that was left this fall. Good luck next season!

What are your expectations for the deer your after? Our public is good but there isn’t a 150 behind every tree.... but if u work at it good deer out in our woods and he mdc does a nice job of managing the properties, however don’t let the southern part of our state sleep good deer get killed in those big woods every year.

I'm from Louisiana, where the motto for some people is "if it's brown, it's down". I'm not a trophy hunter. I'm just hoping to go somewhere to see more than 2-3 deer in a week. My personal philosophy is if I decide to shoot a legal deer, then I am happy to take the shot. I don't worry about what other people think of my kill. I am just as happy with a fat doe, as I am with a buck.

stay away from St Louis ive spent alot of time in those areas. the first mile of land anything that looks good has a stand in it. very high pressure.

If I had to kill a good one in MO I would head S. of I70 and I live in the Northern 1/3rd!

I have hunted private public or both lands from central Georgia to west Texas including Kentucky, Tennessee, Missouri, Mississippi, Alabama and Arkansas. I live in south Louisiana and would rather hunt the Mississippi delta areas north of Natchez on the Mississippi or Louisiana side of the river than anywhere else I’ve hunted. The deer population are just as plentiful and buck quality equal if not better. The number of 170” + bucks that come from this area is as good or better than anywhere in the country.

Don’t forget Panther Swamp NWR and Delta in Mississippi. The Tensas NWR, Big Lake WMA Bayou Cocodrie and Yancey on the Louisiana side. Big bucks and plenty of pigs!
I have hunted Yancy for the last few years. Mostly the primitive hunt. I like that place.
