Missouri 2019

I have hunted Yancy for the last few years. Mostly the primitive hunt. I like that place.

There are some quality deer in that WMA but lots of pressure at times. The Cocodrie up river from Yancy is smaller but I do not believe it gets as much pressure. Across the river from Cocodrie in Mississippi is the St. Catherine Creek NWR. It has a good mix of hills and swamp. Cat Island NWR is down river from Angola Prison. That refuge has a single road access that was washed out a few years ago. I hear they are going to repair the road and reopen it 2019-2020 season. There hasn’t been any pressure for a couple years now so it should be prime hunting. You know a big ole swamp donkey is going to come out of the Cat Island and make the pages of the Louisiana Sportsman.

I went to Cat Island the year before it closed. My podnah killed a BIG sow. We saw deer, but no shot opportunity. I will go back of it is open next season.
