There are some quality deer in that WMA but lots of pressure at times. The Cocodrie up river from Yancy is smaller but I do not believe it gets as much pressure. Across the river from Cocodrie in Mississippi is the St. Catherine Creek NWR. It has a good mix of hills and swamp. Cat Island NWR is down river from Angola Prison. That refuge has a single road access that was washed out a few years ago. I hear they are going to repair the road and reopen it 2019-2020 season. There hasn’t been any pressure for a couple years now so it should be prime hunting. You know a big ole swamp donkey is going to come out of the Cat Island and make the pages of the Louisiana Sportsman.I have hunted Yancy for the last few years. Mostly the primitive hunt. I like that place.
