More compact way to stack modded Heliums

Just wanted to share another way to stack modified helium sticks that I came up with. I was trying to figure out how I wanted to solve the versa button stacking problem, and stumbled into what I think is a better solution. It's so simple, I'm sure other guys are doing it. I think it’s slightly more compact than stacking the sticks all aligned the same way. It also eliminates most of the song and dance about aligning/countersinking the versa buttons, it’s a moot point with this method.

Nest the first two sticks together with the tree brackets facing each other. I secure the rope from one stick, and leave the ropes loose on the other. I then stack my third on top and use the rope from the middle stick to wrap the whole bundle up. A final cinch around the versa buttons and the load is secure as it gets.

It is a more compact package because you end up with all the tree brackets facing inward. The brilliant movable aider makes it all possible and way less fuss getting them nested together.

Ounce trimming is nice and all but I'll take a weight penalty for compact and packable any day. I'm not sure you can design sticks to stack much more compact than this.

In my head I think this works with the original 3-step sticks but never actually tried it so I can't be sure.

For some situations I plan to add a fourth stick when they go on sale again in the spring. I would plan to pack two bundles of two sticks and the brackets should nest beside each other this way rather than try to stack all four vertically, but that’s just my preferred way of doing it.

Very cool! I love my heliums. I have not cut mine down like that, but I will definitely try that stacking method.

I also have been wanting to buy a single helium stick to make a set of 4>? You say they usually go on sale?

I don't have any inside info but last year retailers had them about May - Septemberish then they started selling out. Seems Hawk does a seasonal production run on them. Haven't heard any gripes about them being discontinued so I assumed same this year. I really like mine and plan to pick up a couple more sets, I want some extras. Seems with mobile treestand gear every time a good product gets some momentum the blood sucking lawyers put the joint out of business.

I have been stacking them the same way but with cam cleats. The third stick is bit wacky with cam cleats.

Nice job elk yinzer.

If I buy another 3 pack that’s my plan, go with cam cleats again. Is this your preferred climbing method?

What did I use
First half of the season - muddy pros with 6 step aider
Last half cut down helium sticks with same aider... saving 2 pounds

Next year... Not sure My guess as to what I will do.
Probably an adjustable aider. Two or three ImThere sticks -Almost Dan's stick weight I hope. I am still working on them. And/or a few cranford rope steps to be used with an aider like BC hunter if I want to go higher.

A few pounds lighter again. I hope. I hope to get my climbing stuff down under 5 pounds plus a platform. I mostly used ameristeps and sometimes Ernies platform.

I think we can get the ImThere sticks down near 1.5 pounds each. We will see.
Use Im There steps with 3/32 one inch 6061 T6 tube, 3/8 holes in the side every inch on the two sides of the tube but not directly across from each other.
Also 5 mm rope - 5000 pound strength on a carbon fiber cam cleat.
Will it work and be safe... I am not sure. I am sure it will come under 2 pounds. without holes in the side of the tube.
I am trying to decide what to use for stand offs . I have muddy and lone wolf. Muddy are nicer but lone wolf are lighter.
I am confident in the rope and cam cleat. Not sure about the tube yet for safety.

Thanks to ImThere for the inspiration and Bowhunter15 and Dan. Not much original thought here just stolen ideas. These sticks will likely cost me less than imported beast sticks. Will they be equivalent. I am not sure. It is fun to try but expensive.
