Just wanted to share another way to stack modified helium sticks that I came up with. I was trying to figure out how I wanted to solve the versa button stacking problem, and stumbled into what I think is a better solution. It's so simple, I'm sure other guys are doing it. I think it’s slightly more compact than stacking the sticks all aligned the same way. It also eliminates most of the song and dance about aligning/countersinking the versa buttons, it’s a moot point with this method.
Nest the first two sticks together with the tree brackets facing each other. I secure the rope from one stick, and leave the ropes loose on the other. I then stack my third on top and use the rope from the middle stick to wrap the whole bundle up. A final cinch around the versa buttons and the load is secure as it gets.
It is a more compact package because you end up with all the tree brackets facing inward. The brilliant movable aider makes it all possible and way less fuss getting them nested together.
Ounce trimming is nice and all but I'll take a weight penalty for compact and packable any day. I'm not sure you can design sticks to stack much more compact than this.
In my head I think this works with the original 3-step sticks but never actually tried it so I can't be sure.
For some situations I plan to add a fourth stick when they go on sale again in the spring. I would plan to pack two bundles of two sticks and the brackets should nest beside each other this way rather than try to stack all four vertically, but that’s just my preferred way of doing it.
