MR Pop Up 28, lack of availabilty

I've got an Alps Outdoorz Traverse coming on Tuesday. I'll let you guys know how it works out. Honestly, I wanted a Popup 28. I needed it soon, though, and figured I'd try out the Traverse. I may get a Popup next season to compare. I like the look of the Traverse, and if it's well built, it may be a good alternative to the pricier Mystery Ranch bags.

Ya let us know. Mystery Ranch is over priced for me. The Alps Hybrid X does the same thing as the Pop Up but 1/3 the $$$

I got my Traverse EPS last week - it’s solid. Crazy capacity and well thought out. Will have to get a few seasons in to see durability but for me this was a no brainer. I will easily get several years out of it as I will go back and forth on using it since I have a lease but will also be getting into some public. The traverse will likely be my main winter pack too just for layering and I like how I can stash WE Stepps in the expandable section along with a predator platform. The spotting scope sections would be great for guys that self film I would think

I had the traverse eps as well but the weight was not to my liking so therefore I sold it and stayed with my Tenzing. The MR28 is solid though and it sits real nice once loaded which regardless makes the weight more manageable.

How would you compare weight on Traverse to MR28?

Carrying weight or pack weight? The traverse is just over 3lbs heavier and the MR as Farr as pack weight

Well like stated above the travese is 3lbs heavier to start. The MR28 sits better and the weight is more centered I feel on the hips which helps when carrying loads. As a self filmer the extra weight carried is not substantial but its lbs that could just be avoided if i didnt want to pursue filming and could stick with a normal everyday pack. I will say though the traverse excels in its storage compartments. There are spots all over the place to really organize that pack with gear. The MR28 has a few pockets but the storage shelf adds some options.

A my ideal pack would be some combination if the MR28 and the traverse had a baby or something lol!! I really like my saddle setup at this stage in my hunting career but the only piece of gear that always leaves me wanting more is a pack.

To summarize this the MR28 has a solid frame capable of carrying alot of gear but will be needed to be packed and organized more carefully but sits on the user a lot better allowing it to be more comfortable. The traverse is an organizational dream which can carry alot of gear. The pack i felt since started heavier was a disadvantage and for short distances it would not be a bad choice imho but for long travel distances i felt it did not ride to well with weight always felt saggy and more in my back and shoulders.

Would the alps hybrid x be that baby?

Ya I am back and forth between badlands, alps, and mr 28. I want a place to strap/store my climbing sticks, platform, and bow on pack without them clanking or messing up my bow. Would really like to hike hands free. I am large so my winter layers are bigger and harder to stuff in a pack as well. Nothing out there seems to fit the bill for me.

Love my MR28. Holds my modded heliums and predator and just strapped my bow on as well the other day

A crossbow does not work well with any of those packs

Can you do any videos or pics of how you haul your gear on the MR 28?

I can get some next Sunday. I leave in the morning to head outta town for a week

I really like my MR28 but if I knew about the traverse before buying, I might have went with the Alps instead. This is not a knock on the MR 28, I just think the price difference would have swayed me. 1/3rd the price for a very comparable pack would have been very tempting.
