We’re u paint dipping or hydro dipping ? If hydro warm water is the key and letting the film absorb the water first
 
Paint dipping. The gray I had was a primer in one. Seems like the other paint was sticking to it.
 
Oh boy. I'm sorry to hear that buddy. What do you think you did that led to it being gloppy? What is the temperature and humidity like at you place?

It will a little chilly. Maybe to cold. Not sure. Did it in the garage. 40ish out there. I used warm water. Maybe the paint didn't like each other. With the black riser I wanted to leave some black in. So I did add some clear coat in the mix. I think the paint layered up sticking to each other. By the time I changed my mind it was to dry to get it all off. So I scraped what I could off to smooth it out and spunge painted the rest. It's not bad. Just lacks that up close cool factor. Right on. Yeah my spray paint cans say not to use if it's below 50 degrees out or more than 65% humidity.
 
If I wanted perfection.. I would have waited for nicer weather. But I had some time on my hands, and my bow was apart. Gonna put the limbs back on later this week.
 
Yeah. So my spray paint ain't working like the utube videos I've seen. It clumps up and hardens on top of the water before I can put my test piece (a strip of cardboard) into the water. What gives?

It's 54 degrees here today (weather says it feels like 64 degrees) and 50% humidity.

Are you using an activator? Or using matte spray paint? Newbie here but my initial research points to those two (lack of activator rather) as probable causes of clumps on water surface.

Just ended up spraying my test cardboard and it came out like this. Maybe something wrong with my paint. It is a couple months old...

Make sure u watch the paint dipping videos takes more paint than u think
