Wanted another option for public land. I plan on putting some felt on the horizontal brace bar and using a cable tie to hold the vertical post to it while climbing.

You may find that the post makes it hard to angle the climber as much as you’d like during climbing

I guess one could run from webbing to the old stabilizer straps so it couldn’t get away from you in the event it was being used without the post mod.

Need one that somehow folds over or around or beside that toe bar.

Changing the cross bar to two supports opens up the center for a post. The XOP climber that hasn’t made it to market had that kind of thing going on. The Panther Quick Climber does something like it too.

When I made mine, I eventually shortened the post to fold under the cross support. You lose the leverage of a longer arm, so I don’t push off the sides or anything. It is secure enough for me on the tree, but yeah, it could be more perfect designed from the ground up.

Could you use a pin instead of a bolt to attach the post to the platform? Fold it under bar and pin it or leave it in your pack while climbing and then pin it to the platform once you’re at hunting height.

The problem is that gets tedious as you need those washers between the dog ears and post tight. Even if the washers are bonded to the dog ears, the post should be almost difficult to slide in place. And you have to align holes and slide the pin in at height after climbing, which adds to the difficulty in accomplishing the task.

I had considered a two piece (sleeve style) post with a pin connection, which I thought would be easier. That presents it’s own issues though, and I‘ve been satisfied enough with what I’ve got the way I use it to not tinker further.

Yea, I had the same issue with the washers with something I was working on. I ended up bonding them to the platform, but it had a little slop in it.

I thought about a sleeve type of system, but haven’t gotten around to testing it. I originally thought I’d do a 1.25” square tube to attach to the stand and then a smaller but solid square post to slide into it and pin.
