Need some advice

You have 90 bucks?! Spend it!

I spent all my hunting cash and had to work a side job to pay for my annual hunting trip.

I suggest you find a side hustle to buy all your gear and rebuild your NWI (Non Wifeable Income).

My job lets me earn all the income I can fit into my schedule... but I’m out of state for all work days so we try to balance home/work life. (Airline crew)

That said, our total discretionary funds are a set amount each month regardless of whether or not I pull in an extra grand or two on my check. All non-budgeted funds are thrown onto paying off the truck early. As an example... our recurrent monthly payment for the truck is set at a double payment, and some months we add a third payment. Once the truck is paid off, the same thing will happen for a 6-month emergency fund so we could cover all essential bills for half a year even if both our incomes disappeared.

Darn that Dave Ramsey and his “Total Money Makeover”. It SUCKS now, but I know we will appreciate all the hard work and sacrifice in the years to come.

I HIGHLY recommend listening to the Dave Ramsey radio show, he takes questions and gives advice on every show and every week he does listener testimonials from people who are entirely debt free. They go over how much they owed, how much they made at the time, and how long it took them. It is REALLY motivating. If y’all decide to do it, I would also recommend his course. It has a lot of good resources for keeping you organized and on track.

We took the long way around on his plan because 2 years ago we had to replace both vehicles. To stay true “Dave Ramsey” we should have bought inexpensive used vehicles, but my wife and I both have jobs with zero tolerance for being late or missing work. Neither one of us felt comfortable going real cheap under the circumstance.
As far as it set us back though, I think we are both regretting it. We got a smoking deal on a lightly used car for her, but bought a new Tacoma for me. That put us almost 3 years behind schedule....

The light is at the end of the tunnel, though, because we should only be 10 months away from owing on nothing but the house!!!

I have listened to a lot of Dave even though I don’t follow his program very well. A hunter’s gotta hunt.

That’s great

My fire chief is doing Dave Ramsey to pay off everything before retirement in 2 more yrs.

Ive listened a little to radio show & have been gradually moving that direction. I’m getting us kinda semi-stealth modified version started.

Credit cards are were done but wife lost job from Jan - April so we had to put some stuff on 0%. I’m paying a lot extra on that but can’t afford extra yet on student loans & wifes vehicle.

One thing at a time, man. That’s how it’s done! It sounds wrong, but I like his “smallest debt first” mentality because it lets you feel the progress quickly. And, it really motivates you to keep it up.

Serious response...

Sell some old gear. I cleaned out my camo closet and in a little over 2 weeks raised over a grand for new gear this year. All sold through online classifieds.

Probably put out about $150 in shipping costs to buyers.

Unfortunately I only have a Lone Wolf Assault II to sell. But, the price it takes to get people interested is low enough I’d rather keep it for when my son is old enough to sit with me in the next few years.

So, I have a decision to make and kind of want to talk the options through before I drop what little cash I have.

I have $90 of funds that is earmarked for hunting by the time season starts...

I find myself with a lot more prep work done this year on properties where I can’t use my beloved bolts and EZ-Kut drill. That means I need to obtain, and refine the use of, a legal climbing method.

I have a set of sudo-hawk heliums. They are from before Hawk bought the design and don’t have the weight reduction millwork done. I did a bit of a botched job shortening them from 3 steps to 2. I didn’t have a drill press and the holes aren’t quite centered/plumb. They should function, just not perfectly level top steps.

That said... I am torn between using these sticks and spending the full $90 on a set of 5 Wild Edge Stepps and using the Knaider/Swaider systems to get to the heights needed.

I already own 3 of the old stepps that Jim Stepp sold that I could use for a platform. I had issues with these steps last year when I was trying to get used to them I had major problems getting them to cam over and stay tight. If they cammed, they became very loose when I stepped on them... if I tightened them just a smidge, they wouldn’t ever cam over. I think the issue may be the old ropes either not being stretched out, or just from their age. I’m just concerned that it is actually me not being good at using them, and that not changing in time for season.

My biggest problem is, if I drop the coin on the new steps I have no more money for replacing the ropes on my current 3 stepps. Or any money left for any of the small stuff I need to get put together by season. (i.e. new nocks and fletchings to replace the damaged ones on my arrows, amsteel to replace heavy/frayed/aging ropes, a couple replacement pieces of clothing etc...)

So, the way I look at it I I can either get the stepps and be done, or I can try to use my botched sticks for the season and get all the other small stuff. I would still plan to use the Knaider/Swaider system with the sticks utilizing the amsteel loops like @g2outdoors showed in his video.

What do you guys think? Better to
I bought the new hilium sticks from Cabela's 99 bucks put aiders on them about 19'6" to the top of the last stick. The Wild Edge steps are great also. Sticks are faster. It's a hard choice . I would go with a new set of hilium sticks if you could go a little bit over budget that's what I would do but that's me .
