Hey everyone, new to the site (obviously) absolutely new to saddle hunting but not to bow hunting and/or hunting in general. I am originally from central NC, and the Navy brought me to South East Virginia in early 2005. I am still active duty, living in the tidewater area of Virginia, but hunt primarily in South Hampton County and Suffolk for those savvy with the area. I am an avid archery hunter, and tend to spend more time with bow in hand then any other discipline throughout the season. As I mentioned, i am new to saddle hunting, and am currently doing my research and trying to make a decision on a brand/kit to go with for this coming year. There are a lot of seemingly great options available, and I'm sure the forum will help me through the process. I look forward to the site and the conversations.

Welcome from Tennessee! One thing: don't wait till July to order your saddle or sticks or anything else. I did that my first year and with longer shipping times almost got screwed! If going with a brand new set up be sure to order by mid June at the latest. Other option is to buy used off the classifieds here on this site. If you go that route, you will be fine and have plenty of time. Good luck this season!

Thanks for the welcomes everyone. VAhunter, I also live in Chesapeake. Philsanchez, I had no intention of waiting, however I am currently deployed so ordering here in the next couple of weeks so it will hopefully be at the house when I get home. Bowhuntr, I get up that way from time to time, especially if I have a reason. I appreciate it all.

You must have been at BNAS. That's right in my back yard. Used to be off limits to hunting back then. Lots of monster bucks have hidden out on that base but now that it has been de-commissioned a lot of it is open to hunting so those bucks better look out.

Welcome from Texas. Saddles are like shoes, they fit everyone different. I had to try 3 before I found the one that worked for me. The one I thought I was going to like the best was the worst! Good luck Amigo and thank you for your Service.

Thanks guys, I appreciate it. For my Chesapeake and Va Beach guys is there a spot locally that has different saddles in to try once i get home? I am aiming towards either a Tethered or the Hawk saddle. However, I cant try one one due to being out here.

Personally I would stay away from the Hawk saddle. I have an Aerohunter Flex, Cruzr XC, TX5, and JX3 you could try along with most any climbing method out there (Spurs, SRT, DRT, bolts,Beast sticks, EWO One stick).

Also sitting in Virginia Beach. Have a Tethrd Phantom and and EWO one stick and rappel setup if you would like to try those out. Maybe we all the locals could get together one day when you get back.

Bowhuntr I appreciate it. I think for this first season I am going to stick to climbing with my hawk sticks I have, just so the majority of my time can be focusing on the saddle set up itself, and getting comfortable with it. And 2Sloe, that sounds awesome, I would be down to meet up, im pretty out of my knowledge base here so it would help.
