I just started drt to raise the canopy in my yard! I've not saddle hunted yet, didn't even know it was a thing until I researched climbing. I'm 62 and 6'4" 240. With back trouble I'm not really good at the hip thrust but I bought a foot ascender and I can climb good enough. I'm breathing pretty hard by the time I get up there but I'm happy. Going to try saddle hunting this season!

Welcome from Michigan.
I haven't tried the foot ascender. But I use a hand ascender with a foot loop. Curious if it's any different. You can pull on the hand ascender some of you needed an extra boost.
Happy Hunting this season!

Welcome from Maine! Are you a long time hunter or are you fairly new to the game? Curious, since you have back problems, why you would pick drt as your climbing method? There are other methods that might be easier on your back. Sticks for instance. No thrusting, just climbing.

Thanks for the reply. I've hunted my entire life. My back problems are from a career in heavy equipment and construction. Drt because it is the cheapest way for me to get started. With the foot ascender it's better on my body than thrusting. I may try sticks. Thank you for the input.
Good day!

If done properly DRT is one of the safest ways to hunt from a tree
