Thoughts from a fat guy intended to help out other fat guys:
Sadly I will be returning the ambush lite. I recieved the L/XL saddle this week and took some time today to try it out. I tip the scales at about 350 lbs. I'm about 6'1" and I buy 48" x 32" pants. I knew the old trophyline saddles were larger than their modern counterparts, so I was hoping this might be a nice alternative for a fat guy. Unfortunately, the waist belt does not reach around my waist. Its 3 to 4 inches short of useable. The leg belts are snug, but not too bad. The bridge is about what the belt should be.
I pulled the saddle up to my waist without the belt, and tethered myself in with an amsteel bridge I use for my other saddle to the linens loops. I did this to considered if any modifications would make it useable. Unfortunately the waist webbing and the under leg webbing became taught without the mesh supporting any weight. This was rather uncomfortable. It is likley due to me being on the larger end of things that it was so uncomfortable. Ultimately, this is just unusable for me, despite appearing larger than the kite.
I will be sticking with my kestrel size 2.
As a side note, the belt being so short was very strange. I was able to get the belt for a mantis large that my friend owns around my waist last week. I wouldn't consider that to have been comfortable, but it was more useable than the trophyline L/XL. I have a mantis XL on order to see how that fits.
