Looking to get my first tree saddle. I was thinking of the mantis and went on the tether site. What are the necessities you need to get started climbing and what are add-ons once you get experience? Also any advice you’d give a person new to saddles?

Click on the home tab & saddle information for new users. Way to much to answer in detail. On a high level, you need a climbing method (sticks, screw in steps/ bolts, we stepps , spurs, and so on) saddle, bridge & tree tether. That’s basically it, so same as hang on stand but saddle instead of lock-on...... just dig in you have more information at hand than you need.

Best place to start.
Pretty sure tethrd has a kit with everything you need other than a climbing method which a mix of personal preference and legal requirements as well as funding. The kestrel or kite may also come in a kit. If you aren't going to get the predator platform than something for your feet to rest on once your in position will be needed. And finally a way to hang your pack and bow.

I took the leap and added a kestrel from new tribe to my tree stand tactics. Getting used to shooting from a saddle takes some practice and I have to say it is really geared towards a compound shooter as on some cases you draw in one position and then hold at full draw and swing around tree to shoot ( look up G2 outdoors on you tube and watch the way he draws ) if you do go for the saddle get a mini platform to shoot trad bows from. I prefer a ring of steps for comfort reasons and when drawing my trad bows it is a little tricky.

I would suggest starting with something basic as to keep cost down. While it is highly unlikely that you will not enjoy it more than traditional stand hunting, at least you will be able to try it with minimal investment.
