I don't anticipate it having a big effect around my area. Probably more so people being out of work due to COVID. The local fishing holes got hammered during prime fishing time this Spring due to lockdown. I appreciated being an essential worker but that doesn't mean that I wasn't salty seeing people treating lockdown like a vacation while I was still going to work ha.

Georgia DNR is preparing for a big turnout this deer season. There was something like a 30 percent increase in Turkey hunters this past spring. They are expecting similar this fall with deer hunters plus people shooting an extra deer or two to fill the freezer.
Turkey hunters were absolutely everywhere this spring here in Georgia. I’m going to assume the deer hunters will be worse

I rechecked my numbers. The DNR reported 15 percent more hunters but a 35 percent increase in birds killed.

I’d expect people being out of work would add to the pressure more than televised sports. I personally have never met anyone who bow hunts who’s also really into football, the two interests seem to attract different mindsets IMO.

I really liked this site until I realized how many bandwagon.....I mean Bama fans there were.

For some reason people just don’t seem to like winners. . We’re riding the wave while it last. I’m sure we’ll be down again in the future , but hopefully not too soon.

Y’all keep on hating.
RTR!!!

Back to the hunting.....

Hopefully, there's an increase in license sales nationwide and a lot of those folks stick with it. But I do think it would be cool to see hunter numbers jump back up. Never a bad thing for more folks to be buying tags. Selfishly I'd like to always have places to myself, but that doesn't keep them open or do anyone any long term good. I could not care less about watching sports, I've never gotten it. I do love the "we scored, or we won" folks who have never set foot on campus though lol

I think you will see an increase in what I like to call the "first day" hunters. However, the folks who are serious about it will be the ones doing the same thing they've done for years. The folks who don't like being out in the cold & nasty, well, they still won't like it.

Do you guys actually think the crowd that usually sits on the couch all weekend is suddenly going to find the motivation to get up before dawn and sit in a tree?

Hello, I agree with you though morning hunts aren't my favorite.

Wow, with DVRs, why would a real hunter choose to sit inside and watch TV in lieu of being outside and experiencing reality. Tape the stupid game and watch it after you are done hanging your deer. Don't have to watch insulting commercials that way either.
Yeah I don't watch live TV anymore.

You obviously haven't met me then. VA used to be no Sunday hunting so I would record games on Saturday and watch them on Sunday. I don't watch the overpaid clowns play on Sundays.

Yeah I've never really understood the diehard college fans from people that didn't even go to that school. I've also met very few kids at the University of Florida that weren't fans when I was there. Something about the major college football atmosphere will suck almost anyone in. Go Gators!
