Not a Gun Guy…

Oh No!!! The only lefty is the Ti so that saves me. Is that place legit??
I got an email that I’m on the list list for XLR. 15 weeks, ouch.

The stock is always the worst part to find being a lefty, it’s almost easier to get that first and build around it has been my experience, I hoard lefty stocks I find on Fleebay, Funbroker, and forums that are deals and go from there, I’m not a chassis person but I believe some of them are ambidextrous so that should help one would think, I keep waiting for a deal on used one for my build but I’m about fed up waiting, I need to pick a color and just order it, AG Composites is 12 weeks behind, I have a few extra long actions but no short action stocks here!

The XLR is ambidextrous. I could have went with a Rok Stock but I seem to like the feel of the chassis. The manners long range was in the running too. After price and modularity the xlr won out.

Well I bet it’s going to be awesome and you will have it forever! There is a couple lefty Manners on Gunbroker right now, but they’re asking way too much in my opinion, more than MSRP, I thought about giving them a call and politely explaining that to them and see what happens :tearsofjoy:, I really don’t need a long range rifle, most of my shots on game are under 200 yards but the stuff is cool so there’s that!! Just like I have a rifle for Alaska so when I hit the lottery I’m ready!!

People are still asking pandemic prices…. but imho it’s over, that market is gone, especially on the “nice” stuff, deals are showing up again I’ve noticed compared to a couple years ago which was nuts, I would list something and it would be sold in 1 day, so yea people are still asking ridiculous prices but I doubt they’re moving as much, unless it’s an out of stock reloading item like primers, a lot of folks are stretched thin at the moment with this inflation.
 
Prices are a bit crazy. I’ve been lucky with some discounts and some discount hunting. My frustration with guns has always been the cost to shoot and available places to practice. I used to shoot skeet 2 to 3 times a week. Reloading was cheap and available. Rifle was always another level of commitment. I can’t shoot every week because of the cost and that’s tough since I shoot bows almost daily.

None of the ridiculous stuff was moving that I saw.

Did see a few older bench rest rifles for sale at decent prices. Just don’t need a project at the moment.

I’ve been looking at the folding CF chassis for awhile. The MDT speaks to me over the XLR. Read the review by the EXO people, thought the disagreeing comments meritable.

Well now I have a serious problem, I just popped into a friend of mine who generally has owned everything known to man rifle related and usually twice, and there sat a new MDT HNT 26 chassis, with folding stock, that sucker is light, and it locks up nice and tight, the stock…. visions of folding that up and shoving it in my pack for deep hunts or while packing out game have put expensive thoughts into my head already, I’ve never owned a chassis or had any desire for one, I thought they were all super heavy, I was wrong… this is how poor financial decisions start lol, the seed has been planted, the first bad day at work soon and the justification, should I, mental battle with go out the window and a fresh tracking number will be inbound fast! I’m going back in a couple of days when I have more time and look it over better..
 
My XLR will be about 2.6# with the options I choose. That’s with the normal chassis not the magnesium. I would have been about 2.25 with the upgrade. The MDT was about $500 more.
I’m looking about 8.75# finished with loaded mag.

I’ve been wanting one for that portability. But I need to get a new rifle for it, and I’m more focused right now on a bolt action 350Legend for my son.

It’s not like my 20” M7 is cumbersome, and the gun bearer gets it out of my hands mostly when hiking in the dark, but the MDT HNT 26 seems even better, especially for a pack out.

Might throw the 350 in a RokStok. I like the negative comb. I think my son can manage the LOP, and I might borrow it to check out Ohio again.

And here’s the worst part, I found one in stock… one click and I don’t have to wait 3-4 months… I need to look his over better, maybe tomorrow, maybe later today I’ll weigh my barreled action and start crunching some numbers, I’ve literally did zero research on a chassis, after holding his I got the fever for one, we’ll see. I’ll probably have some questions later when I’m done working today..

I couldn’t agree more, my rifle I use now is perfect, a model 7 is also a perfect woods rifle, none of this stuff is necessary it’s a want item, which makes the cost suck even more, I did the same thing and I bought my son a rifle this winter, I got lucky and found the matching rifle to what I use but right handed, so now we have matching rifles and he’s super excited about that, the person did me a favor selling it to me and I still appreciate it if he reads this by chance, and I bet he will!!!

They like the XLR. But I’m still on course for the MDT.

Some of the comments are/were worth looking at. I’ve been following these companies from inception. No experience, but my gut sells me on the MDT.
 
I don’t think you could go wrong with either. But, MDT doesn’t sell a long action lefty. A good smith can carve it out. Carbon is very nice in cold weather. There are a bunch of chassis to look at for hunting. MPA, MDT, XLR and a few others I have found. After looking and playing with the XLR, I’m confident in my choice but it’s a Chevy/Ford thing.
