Novix hybrid treestand

In your opinion what makes what you described above better than if I on my LWCG ambush and knees in the tree? I can see how that would be better on a small tree.

I just don't want to spend that kind of money on the .5 to do the same thing I am now. I would really like to sit down for 15 minutes every couple of hours but because of my height anxiety I would prefer not to have to turn around to do it. Also I feel turning around to sit down takes my eyes off of where I set up to look while standing.

I just like having that foot space away from the tree a bit. It's easier to maneuver into a shot position. On ideal trees, either are fine. On leaning trees especially, I've been squeezed out of a small platform enough that it irrirates me.

One of the perks to the .5 over the Ambush for me is how it packs with LWCG (and Shikar) sticks.

Called it a prototype, but didn’t mention anything about the seat being fabric in the production run.

The original Andy stand didn’t have a seat.

The pipe seat was added. (Looks like it was a bit sketchy, lol).

Other approaches/solutions to combine seat and stand followed and we’re more popular.

Something like that.
Looking at your pic, it seems like the support bar is a tad too long. If it was a little shorter it would be less sketchy, but pics can be deceiving. One addition I've made to mine is a short piece of Amsteel whoopee sling that goes from the support bar to the platform to guard against the platform "trap-dooring".

I guess I'm taking this thread a little off topic. Sorry about that.

That thing is probably my least favorite of anything I've seen from the show.

To truly be innovative why not give the "seat" pivot point multiple knee rest positons/angles for knee support? Because that's about all it is going to be good for.

And what the hell is the purpose of the double V-shaped piece on the front? Putting a knee against when you are setting it to get a strap around a tree in a direction you don't want?
Or just just to be able to allow it to stand on front edge while on the ground...

I've spent a fair amount of time wondering why the bottom support like this isn't more common. I mean it really really seems to be the answer to so many concerns people have.

Do any of you that have been around longer know why this went out of style or isn't used more?
I've made many of those back in the day w/mesh tops rather than wood. We used a separate strap on seat so we could adjust the height. That has been my biggest dislike for tree stand is the too low seat. Hang on stands should have adjustable tube post for the seat post so you don't feel like you're sitting in a corvette. We made ours from 3/4 " conduit w/ a tubing bender. We also used car seat belts rather than chain. We weren't worried about KN back then. I don't think I even owned a harness then!

I too am stumped by the vampire teeth at the front of the platform. They went out of the way to add that, so it must have a purpose. Hanging a pack? Idk?

Gun rest yet to come to fit into those vampire teeth....
Someone at the show should ask the question

Yep so the seat must fold down out of the way and you can just wedge it? That’s kind of cool!!!

I don't know that @Blacksmith and I were being serious, but if that is the intent you can bet noone in that Novix booth knew, or they
would have pitched it...

This design for me is like a wet behind the ears, non-hunter,1st-year ME's, first project kind of good...

Maybe I'm missing something about wedging it.
If the stand is stable when hung from a single trunk, then what is the purpose of also wedging it?
I'm a huge proponent of setting up in multi-trunked trees, I do it as often as I can with any type of hang on/saddle platforms.
But trying to have the base wedge for another point of contact sounds like a lot of fiddle factor to me.
If you wedge it 1st, then the straps won't truly tighten like they do when cam over, toe-hook, or just basically push down on the stand as we cam it in order to get a solid strap tension.

But if we 1st set the straps, then the odds of having it in just the exact right spot, so the platform pivots down and makes the perfect amount of wedge contact seems like it would be difficult to me. And if there is any tiny amount of flex of the stand, it's eventually going to make noise against bark.

I'm not being critical of the overall stand, but if that's the point of those vampire teeth, I am critical of that.
If the stand is stable and sturdy, just tuck it in close to the 2 trunks, and attach it to one trunk with the straps. No need to fuss trying to get it set in the magic position on the tree so all points have the correct amount of contact.

I have no idea what they are either but when seeing those teeth I jumped to the same conclusion. You either strap it to the tree like a normal stand or wedge it if you flip it over?!?!:fearscream:

My guess about the teeth in the front is so you have a little nub to push your boot onto when leaning to one side of the stand or the other if you’re leaning on the edge like a traditional saddle platform.

I considered that possibility, that they’re there for traction. It’s likely the case. They do talk about walking the edges during the demo at ATA.

But I can’t figure why someone would end up needing to use them with a treestand sized platform in front of them. I mean, some sort of teeth on the sides would seem more logical to me.

Yeah I agree. I primarily hybrid hunt on a hang on stand and I’ve never felt the need to lean on the edge of the stand for any reason in any direction with all that real estate to simply stand on and turn around etc.

I'm new to the LWCG .5 and sticks. It definitely packs up nice and the weight is awesome.

The Novix hybrid stand doesn’t interest me.

Novix just answered. They are for pushing off to the sides! Don't look very aggressive for boot grip ! Looks like the angle is all wrong to grab your boot from the side. It's fine with me, I think the one I made is better than theirs,JMO
