Old Trophylines

I purchased an older but never used 2006 trophyline tree saddle from another user on here, but I'm curious, are the shoulder straps just for holding it up while you walk in? Are they necessary for safety reason I may not have thought of? And is there a way to remove them without destroying them as I would like to keep the original straps since I have a complete setup (even included the original instructional CD and catalog).

If they are just for the walk in, could I just have a belt added onto it to accomplish the same thing?

Just for holding up the saddle, but they suck. I cut them off my old TL and added clip-on suspenders.
But I still hated that TL and is why I now own, and love, my Kestrel.

They were put on to satisfy TMA safety regs. That's also why you have a loop in the back to clip a safety strap like a normal harness

I dont use the straps for walking as the bridge tightens to form a belt. They are helpful when you are tethered in (loosen up the belt/bridge so that you no longer have a belt but a double bridge) and try to readjust. Without shoulder straps the saddle falls down and the shoulder straps prevent that.

I cut the shoulder straps AND leg straps off mine. They just seemed to always be in the way. Re-used the shoulder straps along with a cobra buckle to make a belt for mine. Sown in with my speedy stitcher. I like the Trophyline much better now.

I have seen in this forum that removing the straps and adding a tool belt suspender is the solution to saggy saddle ( around 20$). I have an okder trophyline and will do this when I have time.

I like having suspenders. I'm planning on adding them to my new trophy line. They help keep bulky clothes at bay and away from my string.

I have a new Ambush lite and cut off the waist belt.
I use suspenders and just wear my saddle in and out of the woods.
The waist belt added weight, was hard to thread especially with cold weather gear on and last of all it would loosen up just enough to allow saddle to slowly slide down while walking.

I personally like suspenders and if my saddle does not have them, I always add them. I do not mind the elastic ones that came on the old TLs but prefer a non elastic set. I added a set on the new TL as well. The only time I find them helping with safety is when you take slack off the tether, without them the saddle can slip down.

I haven't messed with mine other than slipping them off once attached to the tether. That's the only way I can add clothes once up the tree too!
