Oops ! Dont want this happening to me

My son uses a Treewalker climber. I have one too, & still use it on occasion. It's the most secure climber that I have ever used. Even so, we both ALWAYS use a Treestand Wingman with them. I always remind him to clip it in on the ground & stay clipped into it until he's back on the ground.

Last season, I was ground hunting that day & got out of camp before he did. I decided to "spy" on him & watch him climb.

It warmed my heart to see that after attaching the upper & lower platforms, he hooked up his tether, clipped in the Wingman, unrolled the rest of the webbing & attached the loop end to his bow, then started to climb!

Seemed staged/click baity to me...."I'm just randomly panning my camera around and, oh look, a guy above my head"....and the extra large spacing between the top and bottom of the climber isnt natural/normal......
The initial video starts with them saying something about how'd that happen- if it's real, my guess is they were reacting to the platform falling down away from the hunter, and then when he's squirming around to try to recover it on camera, he falls. Seems like a "we went to visit dad in the stand, distracted him, and he made a mistake" scenario possibly. But to be honest, can't trust much of anything that's posted online these days, I don't understand why getting reactions is the be all end all these days.

Stabilizer straps loose...and how high was he "hunting"

Ouch! I mobile hunted for 20 years from a Summit and never wore a safety harness. Luckily, I never had a weighted section of either the stand or seat slide out like that. I did have the bottom slide down once while I was "seating" the seat to the tree while setting up and had all my weight on the seat portion. I've detailed that experience on here before and rather than re-type I'll just link it here if you're interested.

@boynes story reminds me of my childhood, we grew up half in the inner city, half in the country, had this one tree in our back yard that had a crotch probably 20-30 feet up. My brother and I nailed sections of 2*4 (using like 10 nails, because packing extra fasteners in to a 2*2 inch square made it stronger, right?) And would climb up there and hang out. Well I'm not sure if it was the same summer or the next year, but I was about 3/4 of the way up when one of the 2*4s came right off, the center had rotted out, and I don't know how I didn't fall. All boards were promptly removed and we instead made camp fires out of cedar chips inside a shanty on the ground with no chimney to melt our army men.

That's just one story, what a great childhood, but I'm honestly surprised that we both survived with all limbs, fingers, and eyes intact. I suppose some brain cells may have been sacrificed lol.

I've got another story about a gasoline ring of fire in the yard (thankfully the fire dept got the street wrong and we got it out before they found us) and various other shenanigans for another day. Man to be young and dumb lol

Great video. I am now using a a well padded rock climbing harness when I go on my fixed/lock on position platform. It is designed to withstand falls, you can hang suspended comfortably until you get yourself out of trouble and you will be facing the tree. You can reduce the sudden stop shock by adding a Yates screamer in line with you tether and harness. It has worked out well for me.

It does smell a little like that, but that's a heckuva shot to take for....

The second video has the guy talking about not wearing a harness then he "falls"/drops his phone so his buddy can groan on the ground and act like he fell. Just doesn't look right to me. Would've been a big thud when he hit the ground

You can see his safety harness in the video
