Oplux with sewn eye

I had RescTech splice tested at 5183 lbs, a little more than 20% loss of strength, it broke in between two close splices, the change in diameters may have made it break earlier.
The splice used on the C-IV broke at about 92% of strength on another double braid rope.
Haven’t had the parallel strands core splice that the FireTech has, but have done other ropes and used them with no problems.
I use these instructions for the RescTech and Oplux

I stretch out the taper at mark 1 by removing 3 strands going one way before the mark and three going the other way after the mark.

Exceptional attention to detail. Thank you Brocky.

I buried the core tail 72 diameters on my tested piece, but have been reading where others testing has shown that only 45 diameters are needed, any longer doesn’t give any added strength. When figuring the bury length I base it on the 6mm of the core, not the 8mm of the rope. This is how I do it with a cover, Samson has instructions but they are somewhat over complicated.

bumping this thread because one of my oplux tethers has developed loose heat shrink. i'm not having luck getting it to re-shrink, so wondering if using something like putting some gel superglue inside of it would be OK to keep it in place, or if that'd have some sort of negative effect on the rope? i could also try to sew it in place but assume that the stitches would just rip through the shrink wrap after a use or three anyway. definitely feels like i'm overthinking this, a loop of hockey tape will likely keep it secured too, and regardless of what i do i'm going to switch it to my LB and use my identical LB for my tether, but better safe than sorry.

I had this issue all last season, even after heat shrinking with my own shrink wrap it would still come off. I just cut it and tied a knot, problem solved.

the more i think about this, the more that yeah, liekly not wirth doing much. i'll just whip or tape it and use it as my LB, then there's no tree bark to push it around.

Go on to heat shrink. Com and order some special clear heat shrink with the heat activated glue. You’ll still be able to visually inspect your stitches and it will stop the shrink from sliding loose. Get 1/2” down to 1/4”

lol sometimes the simplest answer is the best one. i did not even think to just buy a new piece, was stuck in fix-it mode. thanks for clearing the brainfart!

this is a good suggestion, i was going to suggest just wrapping it well with some decent, think 3m electrical tape, and then peeling it off periodically to inspect.....but that would get old and you couldn't do a visual on it everyday before a hunt (at least not easily)

another idea i had was some of the tight ranger bands, which are just really durable rubber bands that don't dry rot....you could use a few to cover the threads and then slide them down every hunt to check the stitches out
