Getting tired of carrying these big clunky ropes. Wondering if those who made the switch to oplux was it worth it? Also, what ascender are you using If any? Like the kong for example

I love it. I tried Canyon C-IV for a while, but really missed the even better packability of the Oplux (actually I’m using 8mm Rescue Tech now).
My ascender is just out of spec, so I won’t recommend

I am pleased with the way the rope packs down, it is much more compact than my samson predator. I use the safeguard and it seems to work well, I was not very happy with the kong duck, because you have to pull quite a bit more than the ropeman to make changes due to the length and orientation of the kong duck. I also have a ropeman 2 that is rated for 8 mm and a petzl traxion both of those ascenders have sharp teeth, you have to be sure they are fully open before letting out slack to keep from fraying the rope jacket

If you are using 11mm predator with knots and go oplux it's a big difference in bulk. It was worth it to me but it's not cheap.

I like it. I use for linemans and tether. It does have a tendency to twist, so you need to take a little extra care how you store and unpack it. Otherwise you can't beat the bulk reduction.

My linemans is girth hitched to my saddle and I use a kong duck ascender. For my tether I tie a figure 8 follow through and a distel hitch using sterling TRC.

I like oplux. I have it for my bridge. I like better than the Amsteel I was using. I use it for my lineman’s with a kong duck and TRC distel hitch for my tether.

I think it’s a worth it. I was coming from the tethrd ropes for the past 2 years. Oplux takes up way less room. I even dropped to 1 dump pouch.

I use it for my bridge, LB and tether with 6mm TRC friction hitches on all and tenders on my LB and tether. With it's size, packability and specs it was well worth it for me. I'm honestly not sure why amsteel is still as popular as it is with Oplux and Rescue Tech available.

I"m using both an Oplux tether and lineman's belt. Great improvement over the Tethrd ropes in terms of bulkiness and weight. This season I'm using the Michoacan hitch on my tether and loving it. The tether uses the schwabisch hitch and it works as smooth as my ropeman.

To me the change to Oplux is way worth it!

LB with RM2.

T with Beal Jammy

Bulk/weight reduction is awesome.

Might also be my bridge soon.

Miss the smoothness of the RM1 on my old Predator LB. Also liked how the thicker rope felt better in the hand as I used LB as a flip line while climbing.

Tradeoffs.

I switched to oplux for both my tether and LB from bigger ropes just before season and am really liking it so far. I always overdo everything so I ordered 50' and made two 8' tethers and an 8' LB, still have like 19' left I'm saving for a rainy day. Did figure 8 on a bights and stopper knots and still very little bulk. I run an EWO fleece pouch on each hip and the LB is girth hitched to my LB loop on my saddle then rolled up and stuffed in the pouch for storage. Takes up like 25% of the capacity. I store my back band in there also. In my other pouch I store my hys strap and tether, its also less than half full (cause I'm an optimist).

I do not use an ascender of any type, I trust a prusik more, and went with the 30mm beal jammy on both my tether and LB. I dont use a tender and they still work great, easy to adjust but bite immediately when you put tension on them. Im pretty sure the BJ are rated at 24kn.

The guy in the saddle hunter group on Facebook who fell last week said his oplux tether broke. It made me kind of nervous at first but I just can't see this stuff breaking. I think we will learn that the failure mode was something else when the details all come out in the end.

I used a heated butter knife to seal and make my end cuts. Heated over a camp stove until it was red hit and sliced through. Worked great and bonded the sleeving to the core well at the cut location.

I switched from a HSS safety strap to Oplux for my tether. The difference is night and day. It also helped switching out the steel carabiners. Planning on swapping out my Muddy lineman's belt for Oplux as well. I'm using a Beal Jammy.

I went to Sterling HTP this year. Its 9mm, so not quite as small as Oplux, but the 1mm difference is splitting hairs at that point. It is also significantly cheaper then Oplux on EWOs website. Its a little stiffer then Oplux from what I gathered and some guys don't like that, but for the most part, I think its a non issue. I am really liking it and would switch again in a heartbeat.

Yup, look at bulk difference on just linemans and tether, now add in 30' of rappel rope and it makes a monster difference.

I just switched from 9mm HTP (TRC hitch) to a TrefResTech (TRC hitch) tether. Glad I did, the packing is better but I find that the TRC/ResTech combo is a smoother combination.

I use the 9mm HTP (TRC hitch) as my LMB, but am considering going thicker again because I like the bigger grip on my LMB.

So far I am sticking with tubular webbing for my bridge but could see Oplux or ResTech being good there.
