Post season workout encouragement thread! 2022 EDITION!!!!!

noce work everyone, thanks for bumping the thread. i'm a bit out of commision at the moment (covid day 3 for me, not been fun) but prior to that i'd been doing a decent amount of kayaking this summer, though lately most of my "cross training" has been physical labor, thanks to all the storm damage we had here recently.

Hoping for a good recovery for you. I got hit in May despite having to be very careful. Fortunately I didn't pass it on. But it's effected my wind pretty significantly. I'm back to running hard, and with speed, but it's a struggle some days.

I did some bench pressed with dumbbells today for the first time in two months. I had to lay off due to a broken wrist. It's feeling much better now, and I got to shoot the bows today too. It feels good to be back in action.

Good for you!

I just knocked out week 5. Haven't lost any more weight but my pants fit looser and my wife says I look thinner. I turn 30 next year. Think I'm going to try and build up to a marathon for my birthday. Also toying with starting the Navy SEAL 26 week program to see if I could pass their physical at 30
Funny you mention that. Just today I was researching the physical competence tests of various armed forces branches to possibly model my own goals and workouts after. But hot dang, that SEALs program looks exhausting. As well it should.

I think Imma start with the AirForce regime first then work myself up to non official Navy Seal status next week.

Today I’ve been eating keto for 6 weeks. I’m down 20 lbs. The difference feels great. My goal is lose 20-30 more and then maintain it for years while also developing greater cardio fitness and muscle strength. I’ve yo-yoed with weight my whole life (31) but never really got fit. Now I’m taking the bull by the horns with my health. Now is the time if I want to avoid the host of obesity-related medical issues set to come down the pipeline in my genes.

Been working out 3-4 times a week with swimming, weightlifting, biking, and running. I aim to continue that, gradually increasing the intensity and adding in some core workouts.

Never to old to go for it!!!
I have been training for a 10k. At age 41 never was a runner. Building up for either a dual or a triathlon. If I do a triathlon I would like it to be an iron man

On my lunch break I do about 30 minutes of kettle bell, bands and jump rope, as much as I can fit. Typically, compound movements working various muscle groups, both eccentric and concentric exercises. My goal is a MURPH workout before January 2023within 60 minutes.

Kids can really throw off your game...

Anyone have experience with the mtntough workout platform?

I tried Keto for years and could lose more than 10 pounds or so. I joined WW in January and realized the Keto I’d been doing was higher in fat and not allowing me to lose the weight I needed to. I’m down 40lbs with WW and maintaining it. I know that there’s no universal program but that’s what works for me. Congratulations on your 20!

Sounds like you are doing great!!! Just remember that all that “good” exercise can turn “bad”. Dont over do it. You dont have to keep adding more weights as you get stronger. If you do a lot of swimming, careful with overhead weighted exercises. The notion of swimming is “low impact” doesnt mean it cant/is not setting you up for arthritic symptoms down the road. A personalized healthy diet that is sustainable for you FOR LIFE will be the number 1 thing that you can do for preventative maintenance. Best of luck and keep it up. Thanks for the motivation to keep up my personal Muscle Hussle!!!

Thanks for the encouragement! That’s a good word on swimming. I’ve been treating it like resistance training with a heavy side dish of cardio. Despite being low impact it’s currently my most strenuous workout. I’m careful to space out overhead lifts later in the week after swims to allow my shoulders time to recover.

This week I’ve definitely been experiencing some muscle pain I think due to overuse and/or muscular imbalances. I’m learning having a desk job dramatically weakens critical muscles, which can overtax lesser muscles when I push it. So I’m going to diversify my training to strengthen those. Plus, I’m beginning to see rest as integral to and of equal importance to exercise for fitness goals. So I might actually incorporate another rest day to get further ahead; it’s paradoxical.

Started more dedicated ack training this week. 2 days were up/down 120 flights of stairs with a 50# pack. Been doing a fair amount of workouts with a 20# vest but it is time for final build up for hunting season. Planning to push it up to 75# next week and 100# the following week or the week after.

Morning 2 of jogging. I did 1200 yards total this morning around 5 am. I plan to work into it and not hurt myself. I've been back at the free weights for about 2 weeks now that my wrist has healed up.
