I am curious to hear from those of you that follow John Eberhart's style of hunting. What time of year do you do your speed tours to check acorn crops and such? Our season opens Sept. 30th. Are all the acorns in by now?

My experience is the white oaks Michigan usually start dropping early Sept. and are dropped out by early October. But I have seen oak ridges with heavy crop dropping well into October, but usually there is more than one oak and hard to pattern them as a food source.

Starting now I'll start my speed touring right until Oct. 1st. I check out mast producing spots first and then will quickly see if last years scrape and rublines are being hit. This is no more than a brief stroll through the area to minimize impact. Anything active gets noted and depending on the food source or sign gets hunted at different times.

I will say generally speaking it's like asking if the fish are biting....If you think they are, they probably did. I've been guilty of waiting too long. Right now is a good time.
