I have a leaner stand on public land I need to get out. It’s against a good sized pine tree in a perfect spot! I have to remove it anyway, but I’d like to leave a preset and climb that tree SRT. No doubt it’s too big to 1 stick, but I’d have no problem getting my tether and platform on it. I don’t think there is a crotch or branch to get a preset cord or rope through, until you get too high for My 40’ of C-IV. No good candidates close by either. I’m thinking of making a big loop in an upper crotch, with A loop at the bottom of it. Somehow space out that loop(piece of hose maybe) and run my preset cord around the tree and through that. Not sure how it’d feed the rope though, if that makes sense.

Oh man, I may have to get my hands on some of Jerry’s crotch rings!!! Those look slick!

Never tried it but this is pretty slick depending on how your setting that 40’ of C-IV from John RB

Yasss! Very slick but those crotch rings seem like a simple DIY project. I already have a spool section I can cut 2 or 3 pieces off, then run a strap through. I have several straps that are maybe 2” wide. The ones that come with standard safety harnesses Should work.
THe plan is to use a lineman’s belt and my 1 stick, then start at the top of my leaner stand. Hang it as high as i Can get it and it should be perfect. Thanks for chiming in y’all!

So is this tree your stand is in the only tree around?
I’ve searched and it’s either big pines(like the tree in reference) or small trees and it’s thick With some trails, but no shooting lanes or areas. I’m on the edge of a point that is alittle higher than the surrounding area, that leads down to the creek. Lots of really thick areas close by and this little opening on the tip of this point is perhaps the best spot I’ve ever found on public land, anywhere…..not that that really means much to anyone but me, lol. I do have another spot about 150 yards away, but I really like this one too!
I found and cut some PVC Pieces and dug out that safety strap. I’m gonna put this on there and I think it’ll work Just fine. I put a camera out there a few years ago and finally got pics of a few nice bucks…..it’s only about a 500 yard walk from the truck too.

I love pictures. The second pic he is standing at the base of my tree. The first one is at the other spot just down a ways. I have/had 6 of these cheap Tascos and being cameras 1&2, these are some of the first pics that I ever really got on trail cameras. It’s hard to get pics on PL when you can’t put out any corn etc…..Evercalm is my go to. I bout fell out when I saw these pics.

BTW-that’s Lefty in the photos. I saw him one day following 2 does and a spike. He had a big piece of black plastic stuck on his antlers! He was trying to shake it off, but couldn’t see jack. His body was so much bigger than the others, like 2 times bigger and it was the first BIG deer I’d ever seen in the woods. They came out in front of me at about 40 yards and I said mehhh. He turned and came right to me and I tried to stop him. This time when I said mehhhh, he bolted right to me and went under my stand! I was at full draw and my arrow took off while he was at maybe 10 yards. Clean miss, thank the Lord, but what an adventure!! I’ll never forget it and I HAVE to hunt this tree from my saddle!

Wow, don't want to be a derailleur here but what makes you think you need corn to get deer pictures? It's like trapping, you have to put the camera where deer walk most o
ften.
Good luck with the preset. Looks like you're in a good area.

Oh no worries….it’s just easier when they come to feeds. I’ve gotten better, but still get lots of wind pics which can be frustrating, lol

community scrapes are a natural draw...
Agreed. That’s what camera #2 was put on, and it’s right on top of it. This past season I found very few scrapes at all And I scouted a lot! Seems like I either find a line of scrapes or none at all. This is one of my favorite scrape pics below. I know we got off topic, but this is an informative chat =0)

This scrape was one of about 10 scrapes down a firebreak maybe 500 yards long. I just love this picture!

Yeah - there’s definitely a lot of mystery around scrapes. The riddles of deer hunting are one of the things I love so much about it.

I attach aluminum climbing rings to the tree with paracord and have had no problems used as a false crotch. I've gotten some titanium rings which have a nice radius on them I plan to use also.

Paracord is stronger than some may think. I also use 650 over 550. My strap is surely overkill
