Congrats!!

I can’t imagine hunting the swamps of Florida in August

Good luck!!

The thing that’s really wild is the rut is about over by then. I wish it was 2 weeks early.

Oh ya Thanks I’m happy about the draw.

Ruts in florida are all over the place -- it starts in the middle of Aug and goes all the way through January. Starting in south Florida then moving up the state. Some places in central florida do not rut until Dec. january.

In Central FL I’ve killed mature bucks chasing does on opening day (mid Sept). This was 30 min east of my house.

I’ve also killed several mature bucks about an hr west of my house chasing does at end Jan/beginning of February.

I got selected for Cypress Creek WMA on the Suwannee River extending up to the GA state line. I am super pumped up to hunt some new public land!

I hunted Twin rivers a couple times where Suwannee crosses I10 it was really good. Forgot about that place till you mentioned Suwannee it’s right outside of Live Oak.

I’ve hunted Citrus but never spent enough time to learn it. It’s been about 10 years ago I found a spot I liked in th SW corner around a Golf Course.

I don't know how you southern guys do it. Florida in August must be stifling hot. I was practicing in the saddle on Tuesday, and it was in the high 70's here in Michigan. I was dripping with sweat and getting eaten alive by mosquitos. Last season wasn't bad, but two seasons ago we didn't get a good frost to kill off the mosquitos until mid-October, and it was miserable for that first couple of weeks.

Wondering if you Southern guys think us Northern guys are nuts for schlepping through snow, and freezing our tails off in single digit temperatures?

I'll take 30 degrees over 70 degrees any day.

It is hard determine where to hunt down here some times. Wish our fish and game dept would post harvest data for all wmal's except the select few they have listed, then one can get an idea of the deer densities.

August is nothing. November can be 80 degrees as well. Deer still have to eat so they move just before the heat and find a cool spot to hide. One time I found a deer bedding in the middle of a palmetto clump no bigger than a 5 x 5. They sure do know how to curl up and hide. Some bucks will lay next to logs and lower there head so you can not see them and let you walk on by. Others will get in 4ft high scrub so thick you cannot walk through it, but they slip in and out of it.

Love the cold weather about 50 is freezing in S Florida. It’s hot but you can deal with it. 95 degree heat and 90 % humidity makes it a little sweaty. I love when guys up N talk about sweating on there way to the stand. The mosquitos can be horrendous or they can be not so bad. Usually if the water is high the fish in the woods eat the larvae hence bugs not so bad. If it’s dry and then you get a good rain look out it’s hard to explain how bad they can be.
