any pictures of that setup?
Here’s a couple pics of my setup from practicing on a post in my basement. Hope this makes sense. I am using a Mammut Smart 2.0 connected to my bridge. On my right LB loop, I have a carabiner + Klemheist friction hitch to backup the device. I ascend, hunt, and rappel on this, same rope up and down.

Don’t let the Smart 2.0 device confuse you. Most belay devices which can be used to rappel will essentially work the same way, each with their own minor strengths and weaknesses. The main point for such a setup is whichever device you pick, I’m trying to illustrate that the device connects to your bridge, and your backup hitch is at your 2-3 o’clock on your LB loop. I started rappelling in this configuration using a Black Diamond Super 8 figure eight plate. But, I always had to switch over from the separate tether which I climbed and hunted from. I wanted a method to climb and rappel on the same tether so I could bail out whenever I wanted. So far, this seems like the system *for me. Others may have other preferences.

I'm 69 and this is my second year rappelling. I climb with a LWHC seat or a Barron Ridge Ascent 2 that I got last year and sometime's I one stick. I use my rappel line as my tether just in case I loose my stand on the way up and there's no change over. I like the Grigri instead of the Safe Guard, I like the smoothness of the Grigri.

Can you use the grigri for ascending as well?

My first year saddle hunting and i've decided to go with 1 sticking and rappelling. Picked up a Smart 2.0 and a fig 8. I like them both, but i'm going to go with the fig 8 for now. May switch at some point.

66 so I'm still a kid. I started repelling with a sky genie and then on to a descender in my later years (bucket self rescue), I like the safeguard but Im getting more interested in the figure 8.

I'm not as "seasoned" as you... :tonguewink:... but I will tell you that rappelling will be significantly easier on you than trying to navigate down sticks. With a Madrock or a GriGri, you can litterally just lower yourself down the tree to the ground, collecting each stick as you come down. I currently one stick climb, but I can tell you that if I decide I like my sticks and platform better, I will still be rappelling down. In my opinion, its the safest and easiest way to get out of trees.
