Rope Bags

I've been through a few different rope bags and I am done with them. I'm going to daisy chaining my ropes or something similar.

The tethrd bag is ok, I guess if you keep it attcached. But it's really tough to get a rope in it with one hand which kinda kills its purpose. The stiffer bags are just too bulky.

I also don't like to walk with anything flopping around so keeping a bag permanently attached is a no go for sure. I want quick, sleek, and effortless and none of the molle attachment accessories really fit that bill.

I am getting to where I think molle loops are pointless for me. I would much prefer saddles had gear loops like climbing harnesses. Another area where the mfgs need to innovate and offer different options than what the few handpicked testers desire.

Yes, I also think the Tethrd bag is worth the money. I might hold up a bit and see if they make any updates after the season. I think they need to stiffen them up just a bit to make that one handed operation better, that @elk yinzer refers to above.

Sounds like another DIY project... maybe some heat shrink tubing over a piece o f small cord tied to the molle loops??

I have two zip ties with aquarium tubing over them. Very similar to what you propose. They work very well.

Indeed that's what I am currently doing but I'm the type that would prefer to buy stuff as I want it and McGyver as a last resort, so I think it helps to point out what I see as design imperfections. But either way small potatoes.

At first I thought a separate bag for each rope along with a pouch for this and that was neat and something I needed. Now that has changed . Why carry all the excess baggage??? It seems most but not all I'm sure have a backpack of some form or fashion as they walk in that would serve dual purpose in my opinion. At least that's what I've been doing this past season, if I need it get it out if not put it in the pack. Just my thoughts fellers

I made flat fleece bags that mount on my DIY Kestrel saddle - one for each side. They are quiet, slim (not bulky), and keep my ropes exactly where I need them. I'm not taking my backpack off to fish out my lineman or to put it back. Nice and snug and exactly where I need my ropes. My lineman belt is girth hitched to the left side so I only have to pull it out, around the tree, and clip in once on the right side. When done, unclip and easily stash back into the pouch. But - everyone is different and has different criteria.

Along this line of thinking, why bag them at all? This last year (my first) I wore my T/LB and adjustable bridge over my shoulders (connected to attachment points on saddle).

1 Requires no bag (noise, difficulty extracting).
2 Helps hold saddle up while walking.
3 Ready to deploy at tree.
4 Price is zero.

DanO, that's how I've hunted with the rock harness for years, only my tether went in my cargo pocket instead of a pouch. But I stored little stuff on those loops (on the harness) also. Might be worth a try

Have not had an opportunity to start playing in a saddle yet, hopefully it comes in soon, but I imagine having the linemans rope attached to my saddle is a good backup in case I drop my backpack or something. I don't like having things hanging off my waist much either, however I think I have to figure out a way to at minimum make tether and lineman ropes be very difficult to lose when not in use, for my own peace of mind.

I daisy chain both and leave them clipped to my lineman loops, one on each side. Get to the tree and and undo the lineman rope to climb. Get to height and undo the tether and put in place. Unhook and daisy chain the lineman rope and clip the end back into the left lineman loop.

Reverse to come down and walk out with both daisy chained and clipped to my lineman loops.

I'm with you on the molle loops. I just don't want a bunch of weight hanging off my saddle. I do like a few gear loops to temproarily attach things to to keep them handy so I did do the zip tie in tube trick somebody (I think it was @Nutterbuster) posted here to a few of the molle loops on my saddle.

I'm using the 5.11 Tactical dump pouch for my rope bags, could be quieter, but they're nice and tidy. They roll up if you don't want to use them. I'll be replacing the velcro with a set of small neodymium magnets for closure.

I just use the cargo pockets on my pants to store my LB and tether.

absolutely nothing beats the sys hauler imo

I find the syshauler fairly easy with one hand. If I have gloves on I just reach my away hand around for help. I think the smooth fabric at the top top helps with a blind put away. I just wrapped up the line first so it will fit. I do have big hands tho and can wrap around the bundle of line.

I don’t like having so much hanging off my saddle tho. Its got to go somewhere?
