What innovative ways do y’all use to get your rope/platform straps around a large tree trunk?

Strap/rope draped over top step/standoff. Hold stick from bottom step/standoff and pass yourself the rope/strap to the other hand around the tree.

Same kinda deal with stand/platform.

Don't climb trees that big? I don't like climbing trees where I can't bear hug them.

I’m with you. Usually when I can’t hug the tree and touch my fingers I find another one. But there is one tree I love to hunt that is a huge red oak. I have to strategically throw myself the straps around the tree and catch them on the other side to ensure I get up that tree. By the time I am 15 feet up it’s more manageable.

Wife told me she leave me if her fingers cant connect if she hugs me. Same way I feel about tree for climbing. But I did felt like doing something stupid once scouting last season and saw a beautiful oak that I wanted to climb. Basically did the 2TC method. Tethered myself with a long line and secure one end of the strap to the stick that I'm standing on, it works a lot better if your stick has a long aider. Swing myself completely around the tree, connect the other end of strap to same stick, let myself be swing back to original position, climb back on stick with aider. take the strap and work it up as high as you can (be mindful of your tether line), then set the next stick. It was a lot of work and not really worth it, the view was the same from another smaller tree a few feet away. But it was fun and something I can brag about to my son when he ask randomly what's the biggest tree I ever climb. "THIS BIG!!!" (hold arms as wide as possible)
