I’m confused as to how these are different. Wondering if I can use a Ropeman in place of the Lifeguard / Gri-Gri for a SRT setup. New to saddle hunting/climbing gear and not sure how these two differ.

The SH Membership has gone live. Only SH Members have access to post in the classifieds. All members can view the classifieds. Ropeman 1 / Preztel Gri-Gri / Mad Rock Lifeguard

The petzel and the mad rock are belay devices they have assisted brakes or a manual brake , im not sure on load rating but im sure they are higher then the ropeman one , which is a belay or rope grab. The ropeman is less complex then the other two. You can use it in the same manner as the other two it is only rated to 800 lbs though.
The petzal and madrock are designed to let rope slide through when not weighted, for belaying. The ropeman locks all the time, weighted or not.

In general, you can use a ropeman for SRT.
In a RADs system, you could replace the grigri/lifeguard with a ropeman but it will only serve the ascent purpose. You would have to swap to a different device (atc or fig8, perhaps) to descend.
You could use a pair of ropemans in a Texas style system to go up and you can also go down.

Could you link or explain what a Texas style system is, please? I tried doing a google search and not having much luck narrowing down exactly what it is your suggesting.
If you do that, in my humble non professional opinion, I would make sure your main line is also connected to your harness at some point in case one or both of your ascenders were to fail.
Yes that’s a texas system. If you look closely at the drawing, both ascenders tie back to the harness. The bottom one doesn’t come under tension unless there is a problem. So that is your back up.
It’s a nice system because of its simplicity. There are several devices that can be used, including Ropeman ascenders.
