Ropeman 1

Pilgrim hunter. I read here that you and others talk about fixed bridge length. You stated 24”. is what you use. Is the 24” length the total length of the bridge or just up to the tether ?

Total length.

have any of you guys painted yours?

I spray painted mine gray a few weeks ago. Just a quick coating, I didn't want to gunk up any of the internal workings. I roughed it up some with sandpaper but I still don't think the spray paint is going to stick very well to the anodized aluminum over the long run. I don't think it is necessary in a camo sense just didn't much like the blue color.

So I was going to get Ropeman 2 because I am using 8mm for my tether.... but it looks like the Kong Duck can do it without the reputation for chewing up the rope. Would you agree? Price difference isn't as bad as I thought originally.

I love my Kong Duck but you need a round biner flat or oblong doesn’t work with it. I like it better than my ropeman 1 for the flexibility of the smaller line. I’m using a Sitdrag biner on it now it’s steel and heavy gona find a lighter one soon.

Nice! And have you tried it with webbing?

I use the CT rolling rock which is the same thing as the duck. I use webbing as an aider in the biner hole. Works great there. Not recommended for use in the teeth

No I have not but now it’s on an 8mm tether that I like much better than my 11mm one.

With the bias toward light weight I would have thought more people here would use an 8mm tether... we’ll see. I haven’t gotten much time in the saddle yet, but I happen to have 8mm rope so that’s what i’ll start with.

What are the advantages to having a fixed bridge? How did you come to know what length worked for you? What kind of rope did you use for your bridge?

I have a fixed length bridge but connect it with carabiners. I don’t like leaving it on because I like to use the bridge loops for my linemans belt. Spreads the pressure across my butt instead of just on the belt at my lower back. I started off with an adjustable bridge but found a spot I liked and never moved it so decided to make it a fixed length to reduce bulk.
I’ve used rope, webbing and amsteel. Amsteel is the less bulky and smoothest when rotating. Make sure you taper the bury ends well so there isn’t a bump in the line as it slides on the carabiner.

Most people don’t think it’s safe enough. When I was younger I worked on a truss crew building roofs in S Fl. Not much safety walking trusses.

Hey I am new to saddle hunting, so we'll see but I have a fair amount of experience rappelling. The 8mm seems plenty strong for what we're up to. Sure it will wear out sooner but, I think it is a fair trade.

I've been using 8 or 9mm lines for my tether.

$40 for a squeaky dog toy?

Yes his teeth sink into the tether and you tie his tail to the bridge. Works really well. You have to pet him first cause he might bite you.
Before anyone else gets in on this it’s a Duck.
