Never pulled the trigger on these before.. but I am planning on getting the smaller tether and lineman’s belt eventually but want to use ropeman when I do. I know right now the tethrd ones are 10 or 11mm which fits RM1, but the new, lighter ones are 8mm and for that I would need a RM2 correct?

Most use a Kong Duck or a CT Roll'N'Lock as a mechanical ascender on 8mm rope. The Ropeman2 has very aggressive teeth that my damage the cover of your rope.

I got the duck, with I would have gone for the roll n lock

I would avoid the RM2 like the plague for that exact reason. That being said, I love my RM1 so much, I feel it's worth the larger rope to use it.

Yes, DO NOT. buy the ropeman 2. Kong ducks are sweet.

If you for some reason decide to buy a ropeman 2 I will sell you mine for $20. Is basically new but I prefer the duck.

Doesn’t the duck make more noise? I saw them at a tethered event and the duck seemed a little noisy compared to my ropeman.

If worries about noise were high on my list I would climb with knots and hitches only. It is what I learned back in the 80's and 90's.

The ropeman is quieter by design but the duck is actually very quiet. It's not an issue. Ropman 2's work well for the tether but its terrible for lineman belt because of all the adjusting and aggressive teeth. Its not as easy to move one handed like the ropeman 1s are.

Good deal. I have a ropeman 1 and I like it for my linesman.
I don’t play with the kong duck much. Can you take it off of the rope like a ropeman? It was hard to tell when I was looking at it.

I realize it is out of spec but I have never had an issue with using my ropeman 1 on 8mm oplux. Mostly use for linesman but have used on tether on a couple unplanned afterwork hunts where I didn't have all my gear with me.

Yes, they are very similar. The only difference is the duck has a dedicated hole for a carabiner.

The ropeman 2 works fine. If some one is willing to sell you there's for $20 I would try them out. Been using mine since 2017 on the same rope on lineman's and tether. Tree bark does as much damage. They are also less likely to strip the sheath off the rope in a fall.

I have both ropeman's and I havent had any trouble with damaging the rope. The 1 is slightly easier to adjust but barely.

Go buy some prusik tenders from genesis 3D and call it a day. I personally would never trust a mechanical device no matter how rated or tested it may be

Those look solid and fool-proof. What rope would you suggest for the prusik/schwabisch knot? I’m probably going to order the Oplux tether from wild edge

I’m not a rope junkie lol you’d have to ask else where for that info but I have 8mm tethrd ropes and the work lovely and worst case scenario if the tender fails you’re still safe and your hunt can continue. I have a hard time trusting something that’s mass manufactured. Is a rope man or king duck gonna fail? Probably not but I don’t have good luck so they’d fail on me lol
