I used to work in a steel mill and there were only a few materials we could wear for insulating...nothing synthetic was permitted. I bought some wool stuff from Goodwill for work clothes and it shrunk like your stuff.Nice, I’ve got some First lite wool base layers and the wash machine and really shrunk the top. I almost look like I got a football shimmel top on
Have you been able to compare the Kuiu vs the First Lite wool?I used to work in a steel mill and there were only a few materials we could wear for insulating...nothing synthetic was permitted. I bought some wool stuff from Goodwill for work clothes and it shrunk like your stuff.
The Kuiu wool and Smartwool stuff I have has not shrunk after many washings. Hand wash cycle, cold water, and Sportwash detergent and nothing shrinks. Even my Swanni wool coat hasn't shrunk when washed correctly.
BTW, wool base layers tend to take-on less stench than a lot of the older synthetics on the market. Some of the new synthetics are much better at not getting skanky like the old stuff.
No. I don't own any First Lite stuff. I can't comment on it.Have you been able to compare the Kuiu vs the First Lite wool?
100% on the same page. And it’s rare that I don’t fill all my tags. But I hunt for mainly for venison and not too hard for horns...and enjoy it. Yes I have taken several P&Ys, I hunt for them but take what comes.I feel like with scent control you have to go totally balls to the wall or pretty much do nothing. John Eberhardt has some videos and books about his scent control procedures. It's hard core. If he buys a new set of boots he won't wear them in the field for 2 years. He just leaves them outside for 2 years. He talks about how you can't have beards. If your face isn't covered its a waste. Your pack has be scent controlled, etc. etc. He also hunts 25 feet up on average. He says he never gets busted and I believe him.
I'm way too lazy to do that stuff. I play the wind and let the deer win sometimes. Their nose is their main defense. When I hear a snort behind me I just laugh it off and try again somewhere else.
I can tell you the FirstLite wool stuff is really good. I've hunted several years in mine, and quite often I can hunt with 3 layers in some pretty cold weather (30's, hunting off a huge lake). I have a Minus 33 merino wool as the middle layer on colder days.No. I don't own any First Lite stuff. I can't comment on it.
