I've relied on playing wind direction as well as using scent elimination spray on boots. I am using it as more of a fine tooth comb to finish my clothing. Honestly, I have had deer downwind of my set on days I should have been winded without busting. However, full disclosure that I have had deer bust me in similar scenarios. To say that it is 75% effective with good scent control practices (scentless storage, boot/bow preparation, dressing after arriving to hunting area, and pacing myself when accessing to prevent profuse sweating) is reasonable. Following what you said, beware of subjective responses. My scent control practices could be consider mediocre to some and extreme to others.
