D4AA01AC-3390-4EAA-996F-C6E5F4423C27.jpeg I’ve been reading a lot of the traditional post, and watching some videos. Had an itch to break out my hummingbird. Haven’t hunted with her in over 10 yrs. I could tell right away, that I hadn’t used those muscle groups in over 10 yrs. either. Looking forward to shooting with her out of saddle after I limber up more.

I've shot mine more the past year than my compounds in 30. It's a blast shooting everyday. Nice bow btw.

Thanks, I use to shoot several days a week too. To tell the truth, I’d rather shoot traditional. It’s more relaxed and you don’t have any bells and whistles of compounds. Most of my bow kills have been 25 yds and under.
You could probably cut about 8 to 10lbs of gear going traditional. I’m going to keep working at it. There maybe an Elite Tempo for sale soon.

Simply enough to tune as well, and not needing a press to put a new string on.

Hmm

I wish I could talk myself to go strictly traditional but my effective range is doubled with my compound. I try and hold out for a mature buck and on public land it’s tough. My biggest public land buck kill was with my first recurve a sage samick and I couldn’t agree more no kill is more rewarding. I now shoot a great northern fireball and love it

I’ll never forget the 1st time a deer came out when I had that stick in my hand. All the practice went out the door. I felt like I took a knife to a gun fight I was looking for a pin to line up, looking down my shaft, form was a disaster. I just fell apart like a kid on his 1st hunt. I missed and sat there in the tree laughing at myself. I missed several more before I finally got one and it was a feeling like no other. But that didn’t mean it all clicked and I became a badass trad guy. That stick will still humble me. I’ve wanted to throw it out the tree before or beat the tree with it. Lol

I try to shoot mine till August then I switch to the compound. I shoot gap so there not much change. Almost makes me a better shot with my compound because it is so forgiving compared to that of a trad bow. I give my out most respect to someone who is dedicated to hunting with on or anyone who is a proficient shooter god know I am nether.

I don’t even know how I shoot. I guess the further out it is the more I gap and the closer, the more instinctive I shoot.

I’m in the process of making my own self bow, by that I mean going on three years now lol. I made a nice one out of hickory, now I’m working on an Osage one have it chased down to one ring still a ways to go. I always wanted to take a deer with everything being hand made. I may buy a commercial b50 sting but that’s it.

Strings are easy to make.
I plan to make my own bow one day when I get a place to do it right.
I tried flint napping my own head but after several tries, I just couldn’t come out with something I liked. So I bought one already made. Tied it to a wooden shaft with artificial sinew and pine pitch. Made a self nock on the other end. Cut some turkey feathers and ground them down and chopped them to style. It spun and shot good. Took it on a hog hunt. No hogs came out but a coon did. I shot almost straight down on him between the shoulder blades and he ran away with my arrow never to be seen again! Lol so that ended that adventure for me. Back to more modern trad equipment.

I feel your pain, been there too. Amazing how deer can turn you into a babbling mess and leave you guessing.
