I hate to read the title of this thread. I never got started. I know y’all are sick of hearing about my house build excuses so on a positive note:
About a month ago I was invited to join some Louisiana friends on a hunt at an Alabama lease they have here. I told them no way I can say for sure I could go. The week was arriving soon for the hunt, and I just couldn’t break away to join them. Then they called and said they couldn’t make it that week and they were gonna push it back the following week. I still couldn’t commit. Last weekend was suddenly approaching and it was calling for 100% rain Friday and Saturday. I felt like I couldn’t do the house work I needed anyway so I could go hunting and not feel guilty. I really just wanted to get away and enjoy the camp life and good Louisiana food that I missed sooooo much. And boy did I!!!
I got up there Thursday night made my 1st hunt of the year Friday morning. Saw nothing but a few turkeys. Evening hunt started out with a glimpse of a bobcat. I tried to get my gun on him but it was too late. A few minutes later deer start blowing in the cut over right where the bobcat was headed. Just my luck, they were coming to the foodplot and the bobcat scared them off.
About an hour later, a deer comes out to feed. I zoom in for a headshot and see buttons. Well at least I got to see a deer. I watched him for 1/2 an hour and he kept looking to the back corner of the plot. I keep watching back there with the binos but can’t pick anything out of the thick cutover. Suddenly I pick out a rack. Grab my gun and get on it. See a glimpse for a split second, then it’s gone. About 10 minutes later he decides to come out. Put the crosshairs on his neck and my one day hunting season is over.
Forecast showed the rain was gonna break up the next day and I got to feeling guilty not working on the house, so I packed up in the morning and headed back to the grind.
