Sewing Machine Deals for the DIY Guys

Consew 226
$500
Cullman, AL

Compound feed with reverse.
Cullman Alabama, who woulda thunk? That’s where I’m living. There is a sewing store in town called sew and sew. They do repairs, lessons, etc. I wonder if that guy is flipping old machines. I still need him to come fix my singer 241 industrial sewing machine.

$60
Singer 95-1
East Brunswick, NJ

Not an ideal machine, but the price is right. Also, it looks like it may have a speed reducer of sorts set up.

I think the early Singer 95 models used a belt which may need replacing but it looks good.

Bernina 217
$150
Havelock, NC

Needs parts, but this is a good deal on what is regarded as one of the best industrial zigzag stitch machines (can sew straight stitch too).
I am glad this one is in North Carolina, too far for me to be tempted.

Is this a good one? It’s near me I’m considering it

If you don't have the space for an industrial and don't want to wait for a deal, it should serve you well. That is more than twice what I would pay for that machine.

Gotcha so $75 max on it... I asked them about webbing and they offered to let me bring a piece to see how it would handle it.

Much better deal here. Not sure on the distance for you.

Singer 111W155
$200
Chillicothe, OH

Not too far thinks for the find I’m on vacation this week but if it’s there when I get back I’ll investigate.... is it difficult to do bar tacks on those older style machines or even possible at all I’m new to the gear sewing scene.

You can't do bartacks (zigzag), but you can simply sew three or more lines of stitches, similar to the way Tethrd and probably others are making the webbing loops on their saddles. You will also be able to use a wider range of large threads, and won't struggle to put a needle through many layers of material.

The most important factor is presser foot lift. Measure the maximum height the foot will lift. Singer 15 machines lift 1/2 inch. Most others do not. If you sew multiple layers of webbing you will eventually want to sew something thicker than 1/4 inch. Most fabric type industrial machines will not do 1/2inch.

Looking for a machine in DETROIT for Heavy Canvas and Leather. Is it to expensive to ship machines?

It depends on the sale price. A heavy head unit for what you're looking for is often $150+

Singer 111W102
$300 $270 $200
Battle Creek, MI

This is a great needle feed machine capable of handling heavy materials, however check that the stitch length regulator works properly. These old 111W machines had LH square threads on the arm shaft that the regulator rides in. These threads are often in bad shape from ham-fisted operators.

Another markdown here.

Singer 15. Not 15-91 but still good machine.

@4090Sharps could you let me know if you come across a servo motor in Alabama. I will probably buy new soon, but wouldn't mind picking up a used one.

No problem. FWIW, this my preferred model, they'll be back in stock any day now.

You can easily add a needle positioner, and it has a ton of settings you can configure to suit your skill and needs.
