Here is a great alternative to a Ropeman, enough so that companies have made similar product to sell with their saddles and some saddle hunters have made there own. What is nice is you use a full hitch with these and still have the benefit of one handed operation.

What kind of rope is that in the picture? Is it Mercury?

I’ve had two on order from treestuff for almost two months now... didn’t realize they were on backorder when I placed mine.

This is a good reminder I need to call them again.

Not bulky at all. It does extend your hitch by using a distel hitch. However, if you are using a ropeman you should be backing it up with either a distel or a Prussic

Simplicity and sticking with the basics keeps you safe. I use this on the lineman and my tether.

Thanks for the reply. I am happy it works for you. I feel completely safe with the stand alone ropeman on my linesman, but appreciate your advise and will try a back up prussic to see how I like it. I have been toying with the idea of a prussic and tender in place of the ropeman. Out of curiosity, would you suggest backing that up as well, or is it just the reliance on a mechanical device that you would back up?

I back up mechanical devices. There are devises out there that do not need to be backed up. However, they are really bulky and expensive

Just want to follow up on this as my shizll rope sliders just came in and I tested them out in the back yard.

I’m making the switch from a ropeman to a distel hitch and rope slider. Not for safety concerns personally. But bc I can do one handed adjustments in both directions now with weight applied to the saddle.

Going to try and shorten my prussic cord a little and then trim down the tag ends a little.
