I keep a handful of these slings in my pack and on bike and in truck. Never know.

This works perfect for a short bridge if you want your belay device closer to you. This one is 30cm, 22kn rating. I just girth hitch one side, keep the biner clipped to same side when I'm not using. I clip to other side when it's time to fly. I'm sure different size folks will need different sized slings.

I thought about carrying an extra bridge or making mine adjustable. I think I'm just going to use my linesmans belt. It's already adjustable.
 
Yeah looks like a good idea. I love those little slings. I have been playing with an adjustable bridge on the kestrel to use for rappel. Just me, I don't like to load wire gates unless backed up by a prussik that's on a locked biner. I'm toying with using a wire gate on my linesman's but I'm just a safety nut. Autolocks are just as fast for me

That's an easy enough way to do it. This is just an option that weighs 3 ounces, is always handy and not really in the way, and is dedicated. I can switch to rappel while tethered or leaning on my linesmans belt in an emergency.

I just grabbed the biner off my key ring to snap a quick picture for you guys. I guess I should've showed with the proper biner so I don't put someone down the wrong path.
 
You can also just clip your bridge AND the sling into your rappel device and then you are backed up. You aren't bouncing around where you could open a wire gate accidentally. Wire gates were invented so that the low mass gate wouldn't bounce itself open when shock loaded.

I clip with the gate facing out.
 
Oh...Broken record repeat....

For Rappel, running an ATC or GriGri straight on the Kestrel Bridge works great and leaves more room for you to use an Autoblock. For SRT Climbing, you'll want to the short bridge.

Another option is to tie an overhand on a bight or figure 8 on a bight in middle of rappell extension. This creates redundency in the system. If either side were to fail you would still be attached.
