silky are hard to beat, if there is something better I've never laid hands on it. I have several of them, a pocket, gom and katana 650, which is an amazing beast of a hand saw, but carry pocket boy for saddle hunting, it will cut anything I need to cut in that context. I've been using the pocket boy about 5 years now, use around camp to cut small firewood too. Still razor sharp. I would recommend the curved blade over the straight option too, easier to cut when you need to really stretch out to reach for a cut.

I like Fiskars saws. I bought a rather large one in my pack for pre-season scouting and tree prep and like it so much I keep it in the bottom of my pack during the season. Totally overkill but I don't care. I also have a (discontinued) Camilius fixed-blade saw in my kill kit that could fit on my belt. Personally I prefer an oversized folding saw to fussing with a tiny blade.
I've had a Fiskars 6" saw for years and it's wicked sharp. o_O
This year I purchased a Corona pruning saw with a 10" blade and I enjoy the "overkill" size. Sometimes I use a Summit Viper and will run into a tree that I want to climb, but it has a 3" or 4" branch that's in the way....not any more. :)

I’m with @BowhunterXC If I feel like I may have to use a saw I grab that corona 10” saw. It works great. While the silky saws have a great reputation and a sexy name if I had to keep a smaller one in my pack I would get the 6.5” corona. I haven’t used the pocket silky but I think with saws size does matter and anything I would want to cut with a 6” saw could be cut with a ratchet pruner.

It’s really hard to beat a Corona folding saw, especially for the price point. My 8” (I think) folder makes short work of apple, walnut, and hackberry around the farm, and I’ve cut 2”-4” saplings down near treestands in about half a minute each. Got mine on Amazon for less than $25. Sometimes I prefer it to a chainsaw for limbing. The thing is about 9” folded and probably weighs just a few ounces. Teeth haven’t worn noticeably after a year of heavy use.
I have a Gerber punch-saw I keep in my pack as well. It’s pretty good for trees but I actually prefer it for rib cages because the tip is blunted so I don’t poke guts and the teeth are hardened extra for bone, vs my Corona which is purely for wood cutting.

Old folding Gerber I keep in my pack. Super thin and super light, much smaller than your average folding saw…Perfect for light trimming. I’ve had one like it since I was a kid and wouldn’t trade it for all the tea in China…

I’ve been looking for a folding saw but pocket knife sized. This looks like it fits the bill! They probably don’t make it anymore but do you know the model?

Did u have to deploy the tourniquet?

I was going to say... Really? Is nobody going to mention the fact that it looks like he is at least partially holding the blade and there appears to be blood running down his hand and leg? :tearsofjoy:

Those Gerber/outers saws are intriguing-whats going on with the saw teeth, seems like there's some wasted real estate where they could have increased the TPI instead of having such long teeth-its almost like a saw knife instead of a saw? Tell me more, why are the teeth shaped this way?

You can ReSharper the saw with a file.

You can resharpen almost any saw with a file? (Sorry not trying to be snarky, approaching this with more woodworking than Backcountry knowledge, and only limited amounts of both)... Do you mean a flat file that's more general use and not needing a saw file? I guess that makes sense, but I generally don't carry either when I'm out/left the truck. I was hoping there was some other reason as the saw looks to me like it would be much less efficient than a silky/any modern saw with the same size blade due to extremely low tooth count. I've never cut with one though, thus most of the interest, it's got to work better than I expect if you've held on to it that long I suppose.

Cuts like a chain saw. Works great on wood. Never used it on bone.

I have used this for a few years. I don’t know of anything more lightweight. Cuts great, but blade is short so cutting limbs much bigger than 1” diameter may get tiring.
Sweet cuz I bought one from EWO about an hour ago lol. I just need something for that occasional small limb that I’m too lazy to go around and something that can help me dismember a cervid out in the woods. Don’t need to cut firewood. Sounds like I picked a winner. Only thing I wish it had was a hole in it for a lanyard….might have to make a mod with my drill!

I can't cut anything on public so don't carry a saw or nibblers but that big hooked blade red corona is a beast for everyday cutting. It's a pull cut saw so don't waist energy with push cuts.....5 or 6 undercut pulls and 8 or 10 pulls and u thru a 6"-8" softwood branch

I use it more than the chainsaw when trimming trees elevated up in the saddle

I also carry hand pruners and frankly I handle most cutting jobs with them, plus they get me through the green briars with relative ease.
