So, on a whim, since i do not like the strap on steps. I took the bottom off my Old Man climber stand, used it and my linemans to climb a tree. I was able to climb to 25' and tether off in under 2 minutes. 5 minutes from ground to completely set up and ready to hunt. The bottom part of the stand weighs about 11 pounds which is heavier than id like but way quieter and faster. I have a hang on ultralight i may convert.

You don't have to buy the whole thing. You can just buy the top which is what you use to climb and as a platform. Still expensive at around $160 but similar to a Predator Platform.

xop hand climber 85.00 - not listed on the website, just call they'll sell it to you. regretting selling mine to @deerdhunter - not to him specifically - he's a great guy haha..., but may have jumped the gun on selling a good platform option for some of my hunts. Hey buddy have you had a chance to use it yet?

Sorry man, but they're all gone from what I know. I spoke with Cody in March and he said they're redesigning the hand climber with an expected release sometime in 2019.

I hear you man; I hate being the bearer of bad news. I sold a lone wolf climber this summer that I'm feeling like I never gave a fair shake. It's just too uncommon for me to climb a limbless tree and I never figured out a really easy method around limbs.
 
I was just going to ask the OP. What do you do with limbs? Is there a half decent work around?

Honestly, I think that would be a great idea. Most climbing methods are at or around #10. Then you have some form of a platform.

The only potential problem I can see if that if you have your feet very close to the tree on a climber, sometimes it'll lose the leverage and kick the teeth out of the tree. I've had a few kick out on me over the years while still using the top. Just be sure you have a secondary option available for descending the tree.

I feel pretty safe with the LW hand climber using a tether, but I am not sure I feel the same way about using the linesman belt. How's the linesman holding you up while you raise your feet? How well will it catch you if the bottom falls?
 
Good luck finding a tree in my area with a clean enough trunk to use a climber. I live in the land of limbs... and they all start about head height!

Well, it took some practice flipping it up high enough to grab and hold. I ended up dropping this idea, it was only effective of rough barked trees. Tried it on a poplar and it was a no go, so im back to the Bullman step for now.
 
I used a hand climber with tether Saturday morning. @bongo uses his hand climber often. I will say that the belt was a pain catching on the pines bark and it took twice as much time and effort than it should have. D421DFB3-13B8-4FC3-95A6-464DB22803DC.jpeg
