I was able to fill my Iowa farm tag last Thursday morning. This was my 27th sit since I started hunting on October 25th. It has been pretty slow. I have had only 8 bucks in bow range and 4 of the 8 were the same buck. None of them were shooters. I have only been skunked on two sits, but I have not been seeing many bucks. EHD has ravaged our county and much of Southeast Iowa the late part of this summer. Our deer numbers are down. On November 9th the switch flipped. The morning started kinda slow, but the action picked up. I ended up seeing 8 does and 3 different bucks. I grunted this buck in from across the river. He started in on my weakside. I got my bow over the bridge and got ready. He then turned and circled around on my strong side. I got my bow crossed back over, out my left foot on my top step and swung around the tree. The buck locked in on my decoy and gave me a 23 yard shot. He went about 80 yards and crashed. I was hunting out of my Overwatch Orion saddle which I love.
I still have my statewide tag. I am going to try to kill a stud that I had been getting pictures of all summer. He has disappeared. I hope EHD didn't kill him. I still have hope he will show back up (last picture).
Here is video recap of my hunt. There is a little wind noise at the start but it clears up quickly. If you want to keep up with my hunts, food plot work, and farm chores please subscribe to my channel.
