Thinking of trying out SRT and don't want to buy any gear that I'll have to try and sell later.

Guys that SRT: Are you right or left handed and in which hand do you use your ascender?

You don’t have to break the bank on a hand ascender, because it is just to advance you up, I would spend more jack to get the gri gri plus than to buy an expensive ascender. You can get them cheap on amazon. Your safety device is the gri gri plus.

Thanks. I have an ABC ascender in my Amazon cart for a very reasonable price.
Already ordered a Safeguard from DanO.

If you don’t want to buy any gear just use a prusik or similar friction hitch. Worked well for me to try it out. Plus it’s always good to have an extra prusik on you for emergencies.

I just bought the petzle left hand (I’m right handed). I compared it to 2 or 3 others they sell at my local store and it is smaller and lighter than the others.

The really light way to go is a petzle tibloc which is what I used all season. It works but not as comfortable to use as a hand ascender.

Thanks for the info, guys. This forum has been an excellent knowledge base for me to learn from.

Ordered the left handed ABC ascender. Hoping to give this a go in a week or two.

save yourself some money and us a ropeman 1 instead of the hand ascender. it does basically the same thing and if for some reason you don't like SRT you can always repurpose it for your linesman rope or tether.
