Still searching for knee comfort

They sell flat pads 1" and 2" thick as well, but probably not with the firmness needed. I am gonna try the suggested thermaseat.

Thermaseat uses Softek which is the same material as the LWCG treestand cushions. On it's own, decent cushion, but not much structure. They've got different models, some may work better than just the close celled foam ones.

Go to Home Depot and get the foam pads to put under your pants(not in them). Will save you 30-50 bucks and work just as well as the saddle brand stuff!

Does it really matter how thick and squishy the padding is? No matter how comfy it is after a certain amount of time it's gonna get uncomfortable no matter what. My truck seats are pretty dang comfy but after 3 or 4 hours driving I wanna take a break and stretch. My advice is to change positions periodically....lean for hour, sit knee to the tree hour, lean hour, sit side saddle, lean, sit straddling the trunk, etc, etc.....if it's really killing ya I guess u could readjust ur platform up higher on the tree and sit on ur butt...here where I live and hunt we have good cover year round pretty much and I can get away with a lot of movement....maybe this is horrible advice for where u live

This one isn't too bad on the back either @ about a pound heavier than a Jx3.

Seat isn't very comfortable though, and kinda sucks to climb with. But it's a pretty nice product that I'd have in my arsenal had saddles not worked out for me.

Not to derail and get off onto climbers but the issues with climbing with these are that people want to take the technique they use on larger climbers and apply it to the lone wolf. Dan Infalt has a good video where he talks about the technique and some tips for maintenance. (363) HOW TO USE AND MAINTAIN THE LONE WOLF HAND CLIMBER - YouTube

Someone posted using one of those round cushions that get warm sitting on them. Gonna try it this yr. Your knees make a hole in the middle and the dam around them keep you from sliding out to the edge. A little heavier but maybe worth the try.
ThermaSeat cushion. I use it. It’s a little bulky, not that heavy. I clip it to my shoulder strap and it rides under my arm as I walk in. The longer I sit, the more comfortable it gets. My sits are normally 5-6hrs. $11.76536779-12DA-4F3C-A30F-1D49A16D9CD2.jpeg
@Red Beard it’s this.

I've seen that video, it's got good info. Hand climber still didn't work very well for me when I tried it, and I was using a Sit and Climb at the time and lovin it.

Still, I did end up buying a hand climber a year ago, thinking I'd keep the smaller (lighter) base for my sit and climb and use the top for saddlehunting, but sold it unused. The HC seats breaking sketched me out, and I made a heavier duty climbing foot platform from a Sit and Climb base. I don't see myself going back to a Sit and Climb, but have held on to one though. Climbs like a dream, all around comfort if adjusted well, just a bit heavy.

There's something to be said about climbers (and hang ons) in this conversation, imo. It's good to explore refinements that improve comfort, but if the saddle or any other method is causing pain or is proving too difficult, it might not be the right fit. Sometimes you can work through issues, but being honest about one's needs may prevent someone from continuing too far down the wrong rabbit hole.

With the HC, I cut my losses.

This is it.

If you haven't already, try this...

This solved knee strain, junk smashing, and leg chaffing issues for me. The tree steps at 4:00 and 8:00 create a little V shaped pocket along with the natural curvature of the tree. Add a decent knee pad and I think you will be pleasantly surprised...

And if you carry it like this, it feels like there is no weight on your back

Yeah I have one but I use my JX3 hybrid 90% of the time
